Owner description: Creswell Crags is a world famous archaeological site, a limestone gorge with caves and lake, home to Britain's only known Ice Age Cave Art. This art is thought to date to about 13,000 years ago and provide a glimpse into the rich culture and fascinating life of our distant relatives. Over 100 years of archaeological work at the site has unearthed stone tools and remains of animals providing evidence for a fascinating story of life during the last Ice Age.

years ago we used to play in the caves at creswell crags. little realising how important the area was. today the site is well looked after and visitors have to book on a tour to get into the caves. The landscaping and informaton centre is an enhancement to the area and takes nothing away from the impressive natural surroundings .

Well presented visitors centre helps to bring this important historical site to life. I would recommend one of the guided tours to add more structure to any visit. They are relatively inexpensive and worthwhile. It may be advisable to pre-book a tour at busy times such as school holidays unless you are prepared to hang around.

And the cafe was very decent ..... The cakes were very tempting.

A great trip - fasinating & unique!! The carvings may be the oldest man-made things I have ever seen. The tour/tours are well worth the time; go early anough to do both if you can.

Got this place right on our doorstep and never visited. For a quid (£3) you can have a fantastic day out walking around the neolithic caves and lakes. Easy for young children and pushchairs. Really beautiful scenery and an amazing historic place.
