“Cotswolds at its best BUT it is expensive”
Reviewed 3 August 2012

We have stayed at the Kings Head on a number of occasions in the past. The setting is the Cotswolds at its best; duck pond, clucking hens Cotswold stone houses. The beer is always well kept and during our past visits we have been impressed with the quality and choice of food. Not too sure about this visit. The "specials" board which in the past has been fairly extensive just had 3 items on it. The menu seemed a bit "ordinary" and was expensive BUT this is The Cotwolds. Room 11 where we have always stayed is very clean and spacious but the over bath shower is not effective and without warning ran cold. Breakfast was okay but no fresh fruit salad and the toaster was temperamental. A number of small flies in the room was distracting. Small issues perhaps but I expect a bit more for £110 per night.

We travelled down to the Cotswolds for a friend's wedding. The King's Head is ideally situated, and is a short drive from Chipping Norton, and Stow-on-the-Wold. The rooms are spacious, with tea/coffee making facilities and en suite bathrooms. We had room 5, which again was very comfortable. The room also came with a fan, which we found very useful as it was pretty muggy that weekend. The bathroom had a heated towel rail, which actually served to heat up the whole room (couldn't work out how to turn it off!) and there were a couple of issues with the shower and the taps - the kind of things you may find when staying in someone else's house. Loose taps, dodgy shower connection - nothing we couldn't sort out.
The staff we dealt with were excellent - courteous, welcoming, and very helpful - and the breakfasts are outstanding - great choice of dishes; I had the full breakfast on the first day, but opted for the smoked salmon the next, and was delighted with both.

Pricing is a difficult one; I felt it was a little overpriced, but when you factor in the location, and certainly the welcome, the comfort of the beds, and the breakfast, it's probably good value.

I'd recommend it as somewhere to stay!

We have stayed at the King's Head on a number of occasions. We have friends in different parts of the country, so we always convene here. The food is delightful and the rooms are very cosy and traditional. We usually stay in the annexe, which has a lovely courtyard outside where you can sit and enjoy a bottle or two! It is a great place to stay if you are touring the Cotswolds.

Room Tip: If there are a number of couples travelling together, it is worth staying in the annexe as you will...

My partner and I have just spent two nights at the King's Head catching up with old friends who were visiting the area. The pub itself is very pretty and the village is also extremely quaint althought there is nothing else there apart from the pub. There is a good selection of real ales and wines although we did find the wines a bit pricey (£16 for two large glasses). We had lunch on Saturday which was also delicious and quite reasonably priced. We stayed in room 6 which was nicely decorated and very clean and tidy. I felt that we had paid a fair price for what we got. The only downside is that the room seems to be above the kitchen so we were awoken both mornings by what I think was the kitchen extractor fan. The breakfast in the mornings is also pretty good with a reasonable range of choices. The staff were all very friendly and efficient so all in all a good stay and I would certainly happily return.

Room Tip: Room six is above the kitchen so you get noise from the kitchen extractor fan.

We stayed here 2 nights in June & wish we could have stayed longer.

The Inn is lovely, the help is charming & ever so helpful. It is charming beyond description - the epitome of an old english inn. And, the pub is priceless. Locals come for their afternoon pint and are absolutely beautiful people to meet & share stories with.

Accommodations were very comfortable, clean & cozy.

It's a wonderful base for a few days or longer to visit the amazing countryside & beautiful people of this area. I'll remember it forever & hope to return soon.

Myself and my husband stayed here back in May. The staff were so welcoming and offered to organise late food for our arrival off the boat. We got a nice large room (No 12) that fitted the cot bed. On the Friday am they facilitated a late cleaning of the room (2pm) as I needed to catch up on some sleep from the night before due to our daughter being unwell. They showed my husband into the bar and he was able to watch TV while minding my daughter. On Fri Pm we had a lovely meal in the back room of the bar - and we enjoyed our meal in the company of 'Amanda Holden' and her family!! All in all, we had an excellent stay and would hope to visit them again sometime.

Room Tip: Rooms out in the Courtyard are quieter.

We stayed here at the start of a 50 day tour of Italy, Greece, and Holy Land tour. We fell in love with this place. Now if you like city scenes and lots of noise, this Inn is not for you. However;; if you enjoy peace and quiet, excellent food, and superb accommodations then look no further. This is a beautiful spot in the English Cotswold's. A short drive brings you to Stonehenge, and also other beautiful areas.

We liked it so much, we will be back in April 2013..another review then.

Room Tip: Actually no pool, just could not get the dots to go away. Ask for the courtyard rooms, instead of th...
