The hotel itself is OK - food average and staff pleasant. However when a fire alarm sounded at 10.30 pm the staff on duty at the time seemed unsure of the drill. The manager was called some 10 minutes later. It was decided that that alarm had been triggered by someone smoking in one of the rooms. However the room was not checked and other guests were not evacuated (many had made their way to the reception area but no formal role call was taken and not all visitors were there). It took a good 20 minutes before someone worked out how to switch off the alarm.
What disturbed us most was not the alarm itself (inconvenient though that may have been), but the apparent lack of awareness of basic fire alarm drill. We have since emailed both the hotel and the chain expressing our concerns over the safety of their hotel, but to date no-one has had the courtesy to reply. Sorry to say that I could not recommend this hotel on safety grounds.More
