“Lovely hotel in lovely setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2014

We stayed here for a Saturday night as a base to explore the Cotswolds and have a nice night away from London. It's a lovely old building with extremely friendly staff. The room and bathroom are both nice and big and well furnished, if not top luxury. The bed wasn't the most comfortable in the world though.
The food in the restaurant is excellent with massive portions as well! A highlight is the selection of gin! Over 250 I believe - nicest G&T before dinner I've ever had. We had our dog with us and the staff all made a massive fuss of him. Because of the dog, we had to eat in the bar area (others eat there as well), so that was fine and they made a table up for us for breakfast as well. All in all, very nice and would return.

It was my mother's 90th birthday yesterday and we had the most marvellous family get together at The Plough. The meal was wonderful and Lynne and her team were so attentive it made my mother feel really special. We were blessed with good weather and were able to have coffee and cake in the garden afterwards which gave the great grandchildren a chance to let off steam ( and the parents a welcome relief! ) I can't thank you enough.

Beautiful hotel, great food and helpful staff. It is our favourite place for Sunday lunch, and we decided to hold a small party here for my daughter's baby shower. We could not have been more impressed. Food fantastic (and this echoed by all of the 26 guests) nothing too much trouble attitude by the staff. It totally exceeded our expectations. Can't recommend it highly enough!

As we have recently moved to the area we were searching out new places to eat as we prefer to eat out most evenings. We decided to try The Plough in Clanfield as it is local, only to find a self righteous pompous manager scowling at us as we approached the bar. Our original intention was to have a drink at the bar while we decided what we were going to do food wise. We bought our first drinks and I honestly thought that we had done something wrong as this man peering over his glasses had no manners and almost in a childish huff asked 'yes?' instead of hello. We were dressed smartly, very quiet and had only walked in so I can't imagine what we had done to deserve this behaviour. This behaviour continued so we drank our drink as fast as we could and didn't bother eating there. What a horrible yet totally unnecessary experience. Perhaps it's a local pub for local people...take our advice try somewhere else! Good manners cost nothing! Bad manners turns customers away and I shall actively discourage people to not go there should they suggest it! What a horrible experience!

We booked this hotel for a short, last minute trip to the Oxfordshire countryside based on the good reviews and beautiful pictures. We were not disappointed.

We arrived late on the Friday night and although we had missed dinner, they would have been happy to provide us with sandwiches or a cheeseboard, we had already eaten so declined the offer.

We booked a superior double room (room 7), we were on the 1st floor and had a corner room. The room was very spacious with a giant superkingsize bed, sofa, flatscreen TV, furniture and a decent size bathroom including bath. The room was very clean and overlooked the gardens.

The staff in the hotel were very friendly and accomodating. Always smiling and ready to help with any queries or concerns.

Breakfast was included in our room price and was lovely. A nice selection of continental favourites available to chose from and also a cooked breakfast menu cooked fresh for you (there is also an option to have breakfast delivered to your room). The food was delicious. We had an evening meal at the hotel as well (not included in the room). The restaurant was a lovely setting, perfect for romantic meals for two. The menu had a wide selection of foods to suit all tastes, all the food was cooked to an excellant quality.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definately reccomend this to anyone looking for a peaceful countryside escape.

This was the third time that we have stayed at the Plough Hotel in Cranfield. As ever it delivered good service, good food, a great welcome and was snug and cosy.

The staff at the dreadful Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo (where we have a disasterous Christmas stay) should come and stay here to learn how to properly deliver good service.

As a place to come and have a warn, welcoming snuggly winter break, this is the place to choose. The fact that it had no 3G coverage in the middle of no where was a real plus point for me!

I booked this hotel as a birthday treat for my wife. I wanted something in the Cotswolds but within easy driving distance to Oxford as I wanted to take my wife there after checking out. The location was perfect as its about a 30 min drive from the city.

I booked a 2014 deal, which required that you had a 3 course evening dinner. I also upgraded to a 4 poster room.

When arriving, I was a little disappointed with the look of the outside of the building as the pictures on the website made i look a lot nicer. The inside was typical of an old coaching house and the bar was extremely cosy with comfy chairs in front of two log fires. Perfect for relaxing and trying some of the 130 different gins on offer at the bar. Don't worry, if you dont drink gin then there is a wide choice of malt whisky and a fully stocked wine cellar. Also the hooky was a decent pint too!!

The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. The heating hadn't come on in our room when we checked in but was sorted quickly and when we came down for dinner, we were placed in the middle of the bar, having already emailed ahead and requested a room in the restaurant. We asked to be moved and we were without any problems. This may have been an issue on busier weekends as the restaurant only as a small numberof tables available and we would have been extremely disappointed to eat a romantic meal in the middle of the bar area.

The room was excellent, and the 4 poster bed was lovely and comfortable. The dimmer switch for the lights was also a welcome touch. The bathroom was really big and the only fault with the room was that we had to wait a long time for any hot water when using the shower.

The 3 course dinner was very good. Its a shame that we had to have all 3 courses as part of the deal as we both were really full after the starters and main course. I had soup to start and my wife had the muscles. For main course I had the steak, which was excellent and my wife had the venison. Although she enjoyed the food, it was a bit rich and she wished that she had chosen the fish. But no complaints apart for no room for pudding..!!

Inside, the hotel could do with a lick of paint and the carpets on the stairs and landings were looking tired. However these are only small issues for what was a really lovely weekend away.
