“Restaurant 56”

We stayed the evening of the launch of restaurant 56,yes the hotel is basically a standard establishment at the present time, but if they upgrade the hotel to match the new adjoining restaurant 56 it is going to be a wow destination very soon.The new restaurant is headed up by Michelin star chef Andrew Scott and the refurbishment of the Georgian building to accomodate the restaurant adjacent to the hotel is top class indeed.My view is go now for a real gastranomic experience at restaurant 56 and be able to still afford reasonably priced accomodation.General manager Ulrike and all the staff were very nice indeed and i have to say the bed was exceptionally comfortable, i found the breakfast more than adequate for the room price paid.and will be returning again very soon.

There's nothing wrong with the Sudbury - it's a motel - reasonably clean, reasonably large rooms - good service.
But nothing much to recommend it either!
Bar food was VERY disappointing - Burger (OK) with no relish, cheese, or anything, a handful of (good) chips and a minute portion of salad - I'd definitely not eat there again.
Buffet breakfast was so-so - but why not cook breakfast to order - there can't have been more than 10 guests.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your constructive comments which we will use to move forward with the plans to re launch the restaurant and hotel as a luxury four star hotel with a fine dining restaurant.

We are currently in a transition period whilst we are making these changes and are genuinely upset that you did not enjoy your food at the hotel as we have been working hard at improving our standards as you can see from our other trip advisor reports.

We hope that when you are in the area again you will give us the opportunity to show you how we usually look after our guests and it will also give you the chance to see all the extra changes we are making going forward to improve our guests experience.

This was my fourth New Year at Sudbury House, not consecutive. The staff this year were particularly amazing!! Everyone went that extra mile to be helpful and accommodating. The New Year package included afternoon tea, which is 'to die for'. The evening meals are great and this year the chef visited every table to make sure all was to our liking, nice touch. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, no complaints.

Room Tip: Never had any prefference

We stayed here for my friend's wedding and whilst the room we were in may have been little tired looking it had all the facilities we needed and the bed was very comfortable so the only real complaint I have is that the kettle was too big to fill in the sink. The staff couldn't have been more friendly; they were welcoming on arrival, very pleasant throughout the course of the day and were always happy to help with anything we asked for. They made it a very enjoyable day for all the guests but most importantly for the bride and groom.

A huge thanks to Ulrika ( Manager ), Cliff ( Head Chef ), Francesca, Tina, Claire ( THE most entertaining and efficient Waitresses anyone could wish to meet ) and the rest of the team at Sudbury House for making OUR and everyone else's New Year Break so fantastic............
Plus Points.......1/ Warm welcome on arrival, 2/ Afternoon Tea, sandwiches and cakes beautifully presented and even tastier to eat. ( nothing was too much trouble ), 3/ Pre dinner drinks with canapés and a photographer, 4/ Shown to our superbly presented table, 5/ I didn't fancy the terrine starter so Cliff came up with 2 alternatives. 6/ All the food was piping hot and full of flavour, 7/ Great D J, created a buzzing atmosphere................A great night was had by all.............and so to bed 8/ What a superb bed, and the pillows...........I wanted to take them home but no matter how I tried they wouldn't go in my case......................
Negative points..........................................................Sorry I just couldn't find any.
Thanks once again for a fantastic time.

My partner and I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Ulrike Le Roux, Anne Corley and the rest of the staff at the hotel, for making our wedding day so special. The refurbishment of the hotel was lovely and the whole day exceeded our expectations. We had nothing to worry about and the whole day ran so smoothly. Our wedding breakfast was a full silver service (hence the reason for white gloves, that a previous review complained about)! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, and when we asked if a fridge could be put in the room, it was done without any hesitation. My wife's nerves were soon settled by the friendliness and calmness of all the staff. We can highly recommend the hotel for any event or a weekend stay! We shall post photos as soon as we receive them from the photographer. Thank you all again so much. Iain & Vicky Rowsell x

Having completed the refurbishment of the Old House before Christmas, you and your guests were some of the first people to enjoy the new facilities and we are so pleased that we were able to exceed your expectations on your special day.

Along with two friends we stayed at the hotel between 27 and 29 December. Although the hotel was very quiet (and we expected this given the dates) the service from staff was very good. A slight admin lapse was that we had asked for adjacent rooms and this had been overlooked but we were placed along the same corridor. The food was excellent however given that the choice on our second evening was identical it would have been nice to have a few more dishes on offer for each course. I would say to whoever is in charge of the sound system that they might consider changing the CDs more often, but when we asked for a change this was actioned immediately. The main plus of this hotel is the friendliness of the staff so well done on this front. Re the white gloves worn to serve dinner I found this pretentious.
