Always a pleasure to return to this hotel and its friendly village. The staff as usual, cannot do enough for you.
So what were the problems on this visit ? The rooms are becoming a little tired; both chairs in my room had split seats with the stuffing hanging out; and the toilet bowl had a large stain in it; totally unacceptable in todays world.
The wines - both the chardonnay and pinot grigio were undrinkable, by any of us !

It is always good to have feedback from our regular guests and we are delighted that you had another enjoyable weekend with us recently.

You will be pleased to know that the refurbishment programme for the rooms has now started and will be fully complete by the end of the year, so there will be no more tired and dated rooms, tatty chairs and stained bathrooms.

We look forward to seeing you again next year and will welcome your comments on the new bedrooms.

Went to the hotel its looking a bit tired but it is apparently undergoing a face lift!
Had dinner there and I was not very impressed the menu was misleading and the food of a poor standard.
I ordered the lamb neck for my main meal which was accompanied by spicy / curried lentils, it arrived and at first it seemed to be a little lack lustre to say the least but after a few mouthfuls I had this over riding burning sensation on my tongue as main meal was over salted and at first I thought it was the lentils so I scraped them off the two pieces of lamb on the plate but it was still very salty so I left the main meal and asked for a bowl of chips which came funnily enough ready salted so I asked the waitress if the chef had served his time in a fast food restraurant.
the staff asked me if every thing was ok but when told no, they were not really interested!

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review.

To clarify we do in fact have a team of very talented Chef's that look after both the hotel restaurant and also our fine dining restaurant, Restaurant 56. We are all disappointed that our menus and food were not too your taste as I am sure you have read in other reviews that the food and service is usually of a very high standard at the hotel.

We will course use your comments to review our dishes to ensure that they meet the very high standards that we strive for here and if you are ever in the area again then do please feel free to contact me to make your booking in one of our refurbished rooms.

Kind Regards

Rachel

Stayed here for 7 nights as we hosted a conference & brought 30 people along with us.

- conference room is ok, nothing special
- breakfast is average
- rooms are basic & if you move the beds you'll see after them is filthy
- beds are comfy
- bathrooms are fairly clean but could do with a good scrub & bleach
- staff are really rude, except Judy I think her name is. Marcus if the moodiest as one day he is friendly, the next he is rude. The other female staff are very rude and unfriendly
- no one offers to help with bags
- gardens are stunning
- restaurant is great
- room service is terrible. Ordered stick date pudding and it was stale and not edible. Asked for a refund & they refused.

Wouldn't return unless is really improved, eg upgraded & new staff.

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review and for your feedback.

We are disappointed that your stay did not meet your expectations and that we fell short of the high standards that we and our team usually operate at. We will of course address each of the issues you raise with our team and use your comments to improve going forward.

As you will see from other responses, the hotel started it major refurbishment programme about a week after you and your group checked out which will include complete redecoration of all our bedrooms, bathrooms and public areas.

I hope that you will consider returning to the hotel once we have completed this extensive programme which also includes staff training as I know that you and your group will see a major improvement in the hotel and will enjoy your stay with us in the future.

Please do feel free to email me directly to discuss a future booking and I will personally ensure that we address your requirements in great detail. rachel@sudburyhouse.co.uk

Check in was good, most of the staff we encountered were pleasant. The rooms were probably as clean as the domestic staff could get them considering the very very worn conditions of the flooring/decor. In desperate need of substantial refurbishment, which I think from the noise under our room had began. Work started very early (for someone who was on holiday) and unfortunately the heat, aroma and lack of air conditioning meant windows had to be opened hence no escape from the noise. I'm sure the management would comment on the refurbishments and the bright future, but I was staying there in the present. In addition whilst we were there there were a large number of "building contractors" who naturally wanted to enjoy themselves after their days work but, again naturally, didn't always consider other guests when doing so.

WiFi worked when it wanted.

Finally a word of caution about the car park most of this is on a very steep gradient and it is apparently very easy for fellow guests to open their car doors without realizing this and denting other guests car doors.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review and whilst we are disappointed that your overall experience was not as good as we aim to provide, we do appreciate all comments so that we can improve and move forward.

As you say, we of course are going to comment that the much need refurbishment has indeed started with strict guidelines in place to ensure that our guests are not affected by the on going work taking place to improve the Sudbury House. Any noisy work is scheduled to take place between 10.00 and 17.00 to avoid disturbing our guests.

We are sorry that your stay was not as you expected but I hope that you will take the opportunity to return once we have completed our renovation programme so you can see for yourselves the improvements we are making to restore Sudbury House to its former glory and secure it place in the local community.

Kind Regards

Rachel

We have just had a really good afternoon tea at Sudbury House Hotel. We were welcomed warmly on arrival and shown to our table which was laid with an immaculate white cloth and sparkling china and cutlery. Tea arrived promptly followed shortly by a selection of freshly made sandwiches and homemade cakes and scones with jam and clotted cream.
The service was first class and it was so nice that Tina (who served us) took the time to chat with us and tell us about the hotels refurbishment and it's sister hotel in Wales.
It was our first visit to Sudbury House but we will definitely be returning.

We have had afternoon teas all over the country and the one at Sudbury House was one of our best. The table setting was excellent with sparkling porcelain and cutlery and we enjoyed the sandwiches, warm scones with jam and cream and delicious cakes, along with a large pot of tea!

We booked for one night, it was pet friendly and we were warmly welcomed. Our room was beside the fire escape which was ideal for us. A large, beautifully dressed and comfortable bed was most appreciated.

We ate dinner in their 56 Restaurant which was very definitely worthy of the Michelin chef. The food and service in the Restaurant was exquisite.

When in the area we will stay again.
