“Panoramic views of the Vale and beyond”
Reviewed 25 September 2012

On a clear day you can see panoramic views of Vale of White Horse, over the Thames and well into Gloucestershire. Great opportunity to look over the countryside. You can borrow binoculars from the volunteer at the top.

“Nice view.”
Reviewed 20 September 2012

Pleasant 15 minute uphill walk from Faringdon. Nice view from top of hill. Tower was closed, its only open the first Sunday of the month and not at all in winter.

“Faringdon Folly”
Reviewed 4 July 2012

The Folly can be found on a hill behind the Best Western Sudbury House Hotel. It is definately worth a visit if you find yourself in Faringdon. At the top of the hill surrounded by pine trees is the folly. Views of the surrounding Vale of the White Horse are stunning from this vantage point. Standing at 140 feet tall it was used as a lookout tower during the Second World War.

The tower is only open on certain days from April to October so you would be advised to check the official website for opening times.

Like all follies it was created by an eccentric. In this case a certain Lord Berners. Designed by the Marquess of Douro, Gerald Wellesley in 1935 it was restored by Robert Heber Percy in 1982 and donated to the town in trust.

Visitors will be encouraged to hunt for wooden statues of various animals and birds which lie scattered around the woodland.
