Arriving at Restaurant 56 the exterior of the building is somewhat underwhelming, however as we walked through the doors that all changed. Prem greeted us with a huge smile and he, together with his two colleagues, took care of us all evening. Their teamwork made for a seemless dining experience where the time flew by as our tastebuds were treated to one flavour explosion after the next. My husband has various food allergies and the chef managed to take them all into account and still ensure that we had 5 delicious courses in our tasting menu. Very highly recommended and we looking forward to a return visit.

I always love coming here so jumped for joy when my partners parents picked here for the second night of their stay. A true test of a restaurant is how well they cook a food I don't like - I hate lamb but I couldn't get enough of the lamb dish!

5 out of 5 once again.

This is a fine dinner restaurant attached to a hotel. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Even on their Choice menu( 3 courses for £40) I still got the canape's, complimentary pre-starter and palate cleansing Kombucha.
The food itself was well presented and tasted good.
The strange bit was on a Thursday night I was the only customer in the main room, they did have a private party of 7 in a side room.

Took her indoors for our wedding anniversary (stayed at Sudbury house hotel).
Enjoyed refreshing G & T’s with some complimentary canopies in the adjacent drawing room whilst choosing from the menu.
Which is quite small, we opted for the £55 3 course dinner with a extra course of cheese to share at the end.
The waiting staff were attentive within being intrusive and atmosphere in the small restaurant was vibrant, nice to see plenty of rooms between tables, rather than packing everyone in which some restaurants do. Every course was stunningly plated and eye catching and delicious.
We enjoyed the freshly cooked warm bread and butter and then received a complimentary additional course of asparagus and jersey royals, for starters I enjoyed a trout dish and her indoors the steak tartare, for mains I stayed in the sea with roast halibut and the wife went with the lamb served 2 ways, our deserts were delicious mine was a mango mouse and her indoors went a baked Alaska type of dish, all of these were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, we enjoyed a reasonable priced bottle of Sauvignon from the huge wine list, which the wine waiter topped it some may times we thought it was a litre bottle!
We closed with a cheese board to share, some lovely fruity biscuits and four different types of cheese.
Unquestionably our best meal of the year, and we are already planning to return, a hidden gem.

We were originally going to go to Raymond Blancs for my big birthday but couldn't justify the near £200 per head cost for the 7 course sampler menu (and you pay even more if you want to change any of the individual dishes!). Restaurant 56 is about a third of the price (they use the same fish supplier as RBs too!) and they are very accommodating and flexible on the dishes.

We ramped it up to 9 with the "Progressive" menu... 9 dishes of almost perfection. The poached cod was a little too rare for us but I guess that's a matter of taste. Everything else though was just superb. Highlights were the halibut with artichoke, caviar and bacon and possibly the most delicious dessert I've ever tasted - a blueberry and lemon alaska with blueberry sorbet. They make their own bread and kombucha too!

It's really difficult to imagine fine dining getting any better than this and the service was exemplary too. Welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable staff who were clearly passionate about the food and drink they served.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough and we will definitely be going back again.
