We were taken to this restaurant as guests of the African Queen, a party of just fourteen. Our table was in the attached barn where with a modest view of the river we waited and waited and waited. We had a two course option and unbelievably it took two whole hours for the food to be served. When we finally received the food it was very good but we would never go again. If it hadn't been for the excellent company we would have lost the will to live! It was not as if they were busy, a foray into the main restaurant revealed only three occupied tables. So if you must visit the Beetle and Wedge, be prepared for a long wait. Shame, there are so many other great venues to visit nearby.

Just had a very poor meal at the Beetle & Wedge. Went with the family for a birthday lunch and although the service was good the food was certainly not. For a meal for 5 of us costing nearly £300 we were very disappointed. A tough steak, langoustine that had been too long in the freezer and a steamed pudding that was inedible.

We visited the Beetle and Wedge for my wife's birthday. We had visited before so we knew what we were likely to receive. The menu was very extensive and something for everyone. The service could not be faulted and the location was just lovely - a very special place. Taking everything into account - it was very good value for money.

We were really looking forward to visiting the B&W having read great reviews we booked sometime in advance to take some German friends on a Saturday evening in early July. The location is great but..... The service was poor, the staff seemed poorly trained and it was very difficult to attract their attention. The food was well presented but bland and some of the portions were very small, not satisfying for hungry German athletes! In all a big disappointment!
