We were staying here for our 20th wedding anniversary, as we had our wedding lunch at the Boathouse back in 1994. The room was lovely - very spacious and well-appointed - although there was only a hand-held shower over the large roll top bath. Also no mixer tap on the sink so got a bit scalded by the (very) hot water tap! Lovely breakfast, but we were a little disappointed with the presentation of the dinner dishes. My husband’s steak looked a little pallid, and had an equally pallid sauce on the plate - no garnish. Vegetables served separately, which is good, but the initial presentation just not exciting enough. Lovely helpful staff, and overall a delightful stay which we would repeat.

We stayed at the hotel last week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The hotel room was large and comfortable with two easy chairs ( most important) and a very good bed. The room was clean and the linen was excellent. The bathroom was lovely with a large bath and copious hot water.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was very good. Breakfast was great.
The setting is, of course, splendid but the thing that makes this hotel so good is the attention to detail. First class provision of hot drinks in the room together with a biscuit barrel. Beautifully set out dining room with olives and bread on the table. The staff are attentive without being overfussy and the lady who runs it is so helpful and pleasant.

We revisited the Beetle and Wedge after quite a gap. This time we found the staff very welcoming and helpful, an improvement onn our last visit. The food itself was nice, well presented and tasty.

Highlight for me was the Crispy Duck starter, full of flavour and plentiful as well. The Sirloin Steak was nice but uninspiring. The chicken main was tasty, however the accompanying sauce overpowered it too much for my liking.

Desert was Apple Crumble and this was excellent with well cooked apples and a really good "Crumble" this is definately worth having.

Overall, we had a pleasant evening in a nice setting with decent food.

The Beetle & Wedge Boathouse is principally a restaurant serving excellent food, with a converted building behind for accomodation. The room we had was spacious with a good selection of teas/coffees/biscuits etc to welcome guests, tv, hair dryer & walk in closet. A good sized bathroom, but bath only with shower head (for anyone wanting/needing a walk in).
The staff who served us were efficient and welcoming and the food was very good. Although not a cheap stay, it was very tranquil & watching rowers on the Thames over breakfast was very calming!

Room Tip: If you need a shower as opposed to bath, ask in advance as other rooms may have them.

My husband and i stayed on Monday evening with a Living Social voucher, it was excelent, the rooms large and very clean, and the food in the resturant was superbe, will definately be going back. Last year we went to the Ritz in London, and we can honestly say that the Beetle and Wedge win hands down on every point.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 1 and we had a perfect night sleep

Stayed here mid-week with a Living Social voucher for one nights B&B.
The location on the Thames is superb, and we even took our Mountain bikes and did a quick circuit of the villages around Wallingford.A great place for a pootle around and will do again in the summer when i'm sure it's even more picturesque.(Great deli for a post ride coffee and cake in Wallingford centre!!)
On returning to our very comfortable room it was great to be able to relax in a decent sized bath with plentiful hot(very!) water.Note there is no shower(not an issue for us).
The bed was huge and very comfortable. The tv worked fine and there were tea and coffee available in the room also.A perfect peaceful nights sleep was had;so i would say pretty much faultless as far as the room was concerned(no.2 for info).
We had dinner in the restaurant in the evening and the decor and setting again is pretty much faultless.I had two courses, the wife had a starter and dessert;plus we had 3 glasses of wine and a dessert wine;all for £50.We thought that it was good value considering the quality of the food we ate.The choice available was really good also.
Basically, couldn't fault the place;so much so we are definitely going to head back there in the summer when the Thames has subsidied a little.
I must quickly mention that we also found the staff very helpful and polite.
Thanks for a great nights stay!
