“Great hospitality, food and accommodation in a 5 star location on the Thames”
Reviewed 5 July 2009

We spent 6 nights from 23 June 2009 at the B&W at Moulsford-on-Thames.
Blessed with good weather for the entire time, we were really able to appreciate the superb location of this comfortable family run "gastro pub".
Literally right on the River Thames (it is on the Thames Path National Trail) with the ubiquitous wildfowl, boats of all shapes and sizes etc. The rooms, the food, and most of all the owners,Stephanie and Warren Musk and their fabulous staff, create an ideal environment for a great stay in a superb 5 star location.
The walk from the B&W alongside the river to Goring is about 2 miles and is worth a journey on a nice sunny day.
We found it very good value for money compared to the more celebrated(and very expensive)places along the Thames River between Henley and Oxford.
It is a relaxed, informal place (with only 3 bedrooms) with as good a staff as you will find anywhere. The food (young French chef) is excellent for the price(included an open bbq with meat and fish offerings).
I hosted a lunch for 13 people on 25 June and the food and service were excellent and the price very reasonable. Good wine list too.
Don't miss it.

I first ate in this place when I was 6 years old (a long time ago) and have been back several times since and not been disappointed.

We took our son there for the first time and he thought it was fantastic.

It has a beautiful riverside setting. The food is excellent and so was the service.

My only criticism is the cover charge. We would have given them a very generous tip had this not be added to our bill. We prefer to decide how much we tip, rather than be automatically charged in this way.

We stayed at the Beetle and Wedge in Mouldsford on Valentines Night - not because we are romantic - married 46 years (71 yr old and 68 yr old ) but because we were at a luncheon party in Moulsford Village earlier in the day. This was our experience.....we checked in early evening and were shown to our room which was a bit cold!! We had a wonderful dinner in the "romantically attired" restaurant and there were obviously couples there enjoying a Valentines Night romantic meal. The atmosphere was great, the service was swift , the food was extremely enjoyableand the staff were very friendly and efficient. We retired to our room stuffed and happy" Unfortunately the plumbing was very noisy and kept us awake for quite sometime. We had a leisurely, very appetising breakfast overlooking the Thames. My husband did complain about the room and, much to our surprise, we were asked if we would be happy just to pay for our meal and not our room. We were very pleased about this. The management acknowledged that there was a "bit of a problem" with this particular room which was being addressed. So, what can I say - we were delighted with their attitude and would highly recommend this establishment. We were treated extremely fairly. It is obvious that the staff work extremely hard to please their customers and if we are in the Moulsford area again, we would certainly pay them another visit. in these difficult times, we sincerely hope that the Beetle and Wedge will weather the current financial climate and if you live in the area, we would definitely recommend the restaurant. Good luck to all who work there. Wendy Hall.

We have been here several times and look forward to going again. It is an excellent retreat, great for sitting in front of log fires reading the newspaper, walking and relaxing. The hotel sits right next to the river Thames in rural Oxfordshire. It has two restaurants, the Boat House and the Main Restaurant, each has a different style of cooking but both are excellent. Although Kids / Babies are welcome, there is very little for them to do.

The New Year's Eve party is the best I've ever been to. The friendly staff, quality of service, excellent food and not to forget the wine list, keeps us going back.
