“Not at all disappointed”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

Living only a short distance from The Boot, I am wondering why I haven't been here more often recently. Having been twice in the last week, once at lunchtime, and once in the evening, I found that both times the food and service were very good indeed. A very friendly team of bar/ waiting staff, who were extremely helpful, and eager to please. The food was delicious, tasty and freshly cooked, with quite a variety on the main menu, and a changing 'specials ' board, including very tasty fish dishes.
It would be a huge shame if pubs like this disappear and we get left with pubs belonging to chains, serving average ' pub food' .
The only reason I have given a lower rating for atmosphere is that it was very quiet when we were there, if it was busier, then the atmosphere would be improved. Many years ago The Boot was a very busy and popular pub and restaurant. It would be lovely if it could be so again.
Will definitely return .

“Overcooked and overpriced”
Reviewed 5 May 2014 via mobile

Never been here before and on first entering the pub the dexor is lovely and interesting. Very quiet with only two other tables occupied.
Was greeted and straight away the menu choices were exlained where things were changed or not available.
Started with the bread starter. Served on a rustic board. 4 pieces of bread with butter, oil, olives and peppers. Was ok but and the end of the day it was bread.
Mains were rump steak well done. This was served with salad and chips. The other was duck breast served with red cabbage and carrots. The steak was ok a little bit chewy towards the end. Both the salad and chips were fine. The duck was overcooked and was not carved properly with lots of fat. The sauce was ok but overpowered by the bitterness of the red cabbage.
On mentioning to the staff they were very apologetic and asked if we would like the chef to do another meal. On our decline the chef offered us a complementary dessert. We declined this offer also. The price of the main course was deducted from the bill without us having to ask.
Both members of staf were extremely pleasant and nothing appeared too much trouble.
A shame the meal was not good as it is a lovely pub.

“Lovely country pub”

My husband and I had a lovely meal here with some friends and our 13 month old daughter today. Really friendly staff and tasty food. Good value for money. The mussels were particularly delicious.

“A lovely place”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

Found this restaurant quite by chance and so glad that we did! The service is friendly and the lunch menu includes substantial main courses, lighter bites and a children's menu. The food was delicious - we had the rump steak, omelette with salmon and beef burgers, all of which were excellent. Desserts were quite pricey but also delicious. The restaurant is cosy and characterful, and the children enjoyed looking at all the boots!

“Very Interesting Theme”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

We found this restaurant by following the brown sign on the way to somewhere else. We arrived just before 12 and there were only two other parties there. Surrounded by countryside and full of character it was a lovely place to have lunch. Decorated with the shoes and boots of a broad range of famous people it is certainly a very interesting place to have a meal and we spent quite a while reading the letters and looking at the footwear displayed on the walls.
The staff were friendly although we did have to remind them to take our order and when our food did arrive there was a mix up whereby part of our lunch was mistakenly served up and partially eaten by the people on a different table. We were given a discount for the trouble.
There is a seating area outside next to the road and plenty of parking.
In all we had a pretty enjoyable time there, the food was ok, we liked watching the cows in the field next door and of course, it was interesting reading about all those shoes.
