I've never written a review before but signed up for TripAdvisor purely to write a review of this lovely pub. We happened upon the pub by accident after discovering the carvery we were heading for didn't serve food until 7pm (it being 5pm with 6 hungry kids under 5 - and 7 adults!). We were made to feel immediately welcome and the owner/manager couldn't do enough for us. It was so nice to go to a pub which positively welcomed children. The food was lovely - the kids' menu in particular was nice & straightforward but obviously fresh. Fish fingers were fresh fish in breadcrumbs, completely demolished by some very fussy eaters. Adults' food equally lovely and we all came away very satisfied. Would highly recommend this hidden gem.

The next time you are pining for some English pub food drive straight past this place. It's owned and operated by Aussies from the Outback who serve duck on cabbage. I'm being a bit harsh, but I get so tired of duck confit on every pub menu in England. Really, when I come to England the first thing that comes to mind is "I must have some duck on red cabbage in an English pub." God forbid any pub should serve steak and ale pie, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, fish and chips or lamb chops with mint sauce, I suppose I will have to go to France for Bouef Anglaise in future because it seems all the pubs in Britain are owned by muttering East Europeans serving beet root soup. It's a very sad state of affairs.

We discovered this lovely pub/restaurant on our way home from a weekend away. We spotted the sign for it on the main road and decided to stop for lunch and were so pleased we did. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was lovely. It is not your usual pub fare and there are some really interesting dishes on the menu. It was great to look at all the famous boots that are displayed and interesting to read the letters that are displayed too - great idea.
We will certainly stop again if in the area and will recommend it too. Thank you.

Living only a short distance from The Boot, I am wondering why I haven't been here more often recently. Having been twice in the last week, once at lunchtime, and once in the evening, I found that both times the food and service were very good indeed. A very friendly team of bar/ waiting staff, who were extremely helpful, and eager to please. The food was delicious, tasty and freshly cooked, with quite a variety on the main menu, and a changing 'specials ' board, including very tasty fish dishes.
It would be a huge shame if pubs like this disappear and we get left with pubs belonging to chains, serving average ' pub food' .
The only reason I have given a lower rating for atmosphere is that it was very quiet when we were there, if it was busier, then the atmosphere would be improved. Many years ago The Boot was a very busy and popular pub and restaurant. It would be lovely if it could be so again.
Will definitely return .

Never been here before and on first entering the pub the dexor is lovely and interesting. Very quiet with only two other tables occupied.
Was greeted and straight away the menu choices were exlained where things were changed or not available.
Started with the bread starter. Served on a rustic board. 4 pieces of bread with butter, oil, olives and peppers. Was ok but and the end of the day it was bread.
Mains were rump steak well done. This was served with salad and chips. The other was duck breast served with red cabbage and carrots. The steak was ok a little bit chewy towards the end. Both the salad and chips were fine. The duck was overcooked and was not carved properly with lots of fat. The sauce was ok but overpowered by the bitterness of the red cabbage.
On mentioning to the staff they were very apologetic and asked if we would like the chef to do another meal. On our decline the chef offered us a complementary dessert. We declined this offer also. The price of the main course was deducted from the bill without us having to ask.
Both members of staf were extremely pleasant and nothing appeared too much trouble.
A shame the meal was not good as it is a lovely pub.
