“Very unwelcoming!!!!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2013

Visited this pub with our 9 year old daughter whilst holidaying in the area, Found the atmosphere to be very unwelcoming and geared towards the locals who drink in the pub!!! We were told they no longer serve food, so we settled for a quick drink as felt obliged, My partner had a pint of carlsberg which wasn't very nice. What upset us the most about the pub was the fact that the locals that were sat at the bar looked down their nose at us!! My partner over heard a very snooty women trying to speak behind her hand saying she didn't think people with trainers and such attire should be served at this pub and should be turned away!! He was wearing a smart t shirt brand new expensive trainers and smart shorts, but regardless of this who is she to judge us!! They were all having a good snigger as long with the bar staff, we just felt we were not welcome at all!! What these simple narrow minded people need to remember is proberbly the only thing that is keeping this place open is the passing trade of people holidaying in the area,we have visit it this campsite down the street for 3 years now and everyone we have spoke to said the bell was terrible for food so I'm very surprised to see it still open! so in future anyone reading this is in the area and looking for a good meal, good drink and a welcoming atmosphere bypass this pub and visit the Black Horse about 400 yards down the road.

“Could be good, could be terrible”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2013

The Bell has its ups and downs. Every time a landlord moves is and makes a success of the food the brewery ups the rent and a new person takes on the mantle. Right now the food is barely adequate bland pub fare. Not worth the money or the effort of going there. Who knows what will happen next?

The decor, ambience, service, drink, food and service are all excellent. Visit and I'd be highly surprised if you didn't find it to be similarly good.

“Really Like This Pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2013

This is a great pub with very nice food.

Having frequented this establishment more than a dozen times over the past year at different times/days........Saturday lunch, various evenings and Sunday lunches, it has never been less than very good.

In particular, the various 'special' menus have proved to be tasty and good value.
During the week they offer a changing £10 menu which always has something interesting and different to try. They also have a steak menu on Thursdays.

Personal favourite is the rissoto which always pleases.

It is a shame that this pub isn't busier. Perhaps it's because it's tucked away in a relatively quiet village.

I would be more than happy if I could live closer to a pub like this.
