Don't stop here for a soft drink. £3.80 for a pint of orange and lemonade (apparently that's £2.20 for the orange and £1.60 for the lemonade....really!!). Would have been cheaper to ask for a pint of beer / cider, and risk killing someone through being under the influence. Oh, and the ladies toilet was apparently dirty, with no toilet paper.

We just spent 2 nights at The Crown inn and we were very disappointed considering the price of the accommodation.

When we arrived we had loads of bags and were shown up to the room, but were not offered any help carrying the bags. The room had cob webs everywhere, and when I looked for hairdryer (which we never found), the front of the drawer came off in my hands. Very cheap old pine furniture. The smallest, oldest TV and the furniture and decor was tired and outdated.

Breakfast is only served between 0830am and 0930am, which in my opinion is quite a small window. What if you wanted to be up and out early, or if you fancy a lie in? The breakfast was of a poor standard too. Tinned fruit with chopped apples, the OJ was concentrate (not fresh) and the fry up was average. Smoked Salmon and Scrambled egg was lovely though.

The communal areas are tired, and there was a bucket under some of the radiators catching leaks.

The staff were not rude, but they seemed very inexperienced and did not have a grasp of good service.

The hotel needs some money spent on it to bring it up to the standard that warrants the price. It's more like a £70 a night hotel at its current level of service and accommodation.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights. The room was spacious for the age of the property. We found it very peaceful apart from the creaking floorboards. I creak as well and I was not built in the 16th Century. Our room and ensuite were clean, the bed was comfortable, soft but not sagging. I slept well! The staff were fantastic and friendly. The meals we had were excellent. I did not hear any complaints from any of the other guests about rooms or food. The only thing we found was that you needed a bit of patience to let the shower adjust to temperature.
This would be an ideal base for anyone touring the area, especially walkers and cyclists.

Had a kgb deal at this hotel, fantastic value. Staff superb and the food is amazing. we had a room that had a fully refurbished bathroom and I presume the bedroom would follow as it was a little dated though very clean and comfortable. Would definatley return.

We stayed at the Crown on a Groupon voucher £79 for two nights and that was priced about right. They say they charge up to £130 per night I would have been very upset if I had paid that much for what we got.

There seems to be two sides at the Crown the room in the original pub and the rooms in the annex people staying in the pub itself have a different experience to those in the annex. People we spoke too staying in the pub had lovely rooms in the annex it was much different, but I have to admit the rooms were clean although a little tired and worn. The beds extremely comfortable but the skylight windows did not have much of a view.

The shower in our room did not work, problems with the water pressure we were told the shaver light and adapter did not work either and the was an arm chair in the room that was so stained and disgusting that it would'ent look out of place on the local tip.

But I must give the place top marks for the food and service, we ate in the pub both nights and it was a truly wonderful experience, with efficient and friendly service from the young staff members.

Yes this place is worth a visit if only for the food but at £130 per night (NO WAY) you are better off at a Premier

Room Tip: Don't accept a room in the annex

During our recent stay nearby we had two meals at The Crown - a lunch and evening meal, both in the Rent Room.
Our lunch was fine - the dining area was quite busy for a mid week lunch time. Staff efficient and friendly. We returned the following evening for an evening meal in the relaxed area of the Rent Room. I had a Fillet Steak which was not very good quality, whilst my wife had Beef Stroganoff, and she found this rather heavy on the rice.
So a bit 'middle of the road' and a bit on the expensive side for what was basically a pub meal.

We really enjoyed our stay here. Only stayed one night but wish it could have been more as we fell in love with the place. The journey over the tops was shrouded in mist but as it cleared and the Crown came into view we could see why other reviewers were similarly smitten. Covered in leafy vegetation, and exuding old world charm it was an ideal place to stay as we visited Ludlow and South Shrops. The room was all beams and sloping roof, the windows small and the bathroom "quaint" but perfect. The meals were excellent and service attentive and efficient.
