The Crown At Hopton
Reviewed 16 November 2010

I stayed at the Crown with a group of friends after a trip to an exhibition at the NEC. The staff were very helpful and polite to us. The food in the restaurant was amazing, and the bedrooms were nicely decorated and very comfortable. Myself and my friends thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Crown, and we will be definitely be returning this year.
All in all the Crown was a wonderful place to stay, and I would recommend it to families, couples or groups of friends. They seem to be able to accomodate everyone!!!

Well what can I fault nothing.
The crowns staff was friendly and warming.
Their food and wine selection was second to none
The room was very comfortable and in keeping with the age or the 18th century couching inn. Really enjoyed my stay and will defiantly be coming back.

Stayed for the friday and saturday nights on a 2 night short break deal. Great nights sleep in very large comfortable beds, stayed in room 17, a new extension. Room was large with a walk in shower. On the friday we ate in the 'rent room' off the bar menu. Very nice home made pub food. Plenty of selection to choose from plus a specials board. On the saturday we ate in the 'Poachers Restaurant' with a set price 3 course menu. food and service were fantastic, as big fans of game myself and my partner had local rabbit and pheasant respectively. Highly recommend, staff were friendly and a big open fireplace made for a great atmosphere in the bar.

this place tries to treat staff like slaves and refuses to pay them and tries every excuse in the book not to pay them. myself and my partner left due to the way management treat us we also saw another member of staff get thrown out without even been told. this country inn is not a hotel its a prison camp for slaves.

the room wasn't big enough to swing it! We specifically asked for a room with a double bed and were put in one of the "cottages" where the room measured 10'8" by 11' exactly. The wooden bedstead obscured the view of the tiny TV - the solution is to remove one of the draws and rest the TV on that.

Before we move on to other things I need to talk about the room a little more: cleaning them once in a while would be nice. Dead moths on the window cill, plenty of spiders and cobwebs and dust. As for the toilet - splashing a bit of toilet duck about just doesn't do it, poo and pee stains round the rim and bowl need to be CLEANED OFF! And fix the toilet roll holder; it's just a matter of tightening a screw. Oh, carpet in the bathroom - please! Between the noise from the bathroom extract fan in the next room and the traffic roaring up the hill I can't say it was the quietest two nights, but at least the road isn't that busy.

More staff, particularly at breakfast would help. One person (trying his best) is not enough. It would also be nice to get everything you ordered - for all those that did order toast, got it but didn't touch it....b&$*~#ds.. I really wanted mine. Cold tea and instant coffee in a cafetiere (the menu says freshly brewed) - and if it has to be instant, more than just enough to colour the water would be nice.

On the plus side, the food was very good - couldn't fault the evening meal and breakfast was good if not fully co-ordinated (not enough staff), and the kettle in the room boiled quickly!

In summary, a nice place but too many corners are being cut to make it a truly pleasurable stay.. Katherine and Terry, you must try harder (which may mean getting up a tad earlier!).
