Booked into The Raven Hotel for a weekend break to explore the area. Didn't know much about the hotel before we went but what a find. Very helpful when I rang to enquire about booking and was able to choose which room we wanted from the web site. On arrival again very helpful and made to feel welcome, booked to eat in the restaurant the first night and the meal was first class lovely surroundings and excellent food. The breakfast was equally as good so a thumbs up all round. In addition we found this a good location to explore the surrounding area, we drove out to Ironbridge, Bridgenorth and Ludlow. There are many more places of interest to visit which will be a good excuse for another stay at the Raven Hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 9 which was very spacious with a good shower.

Not booked in anywhere to eat on this Sunday night, we literally stumbled on this place . It was the World Cup final night so perhaps that's why we could get a table. The food was first class and not too expensive, lovely staff... We shall be back when in Shropshire that's for sure.

We booked this last minute. When we arrived we were checked in efficiently. Our room was in The Forge and was clean and had TV, wifi and drinks facilities. The bathroom a good size with a great deluge shower however could have done with a light above the mirror.
Unfortunately the restaurant was fully booked so had to eat elsewhere but had drinks in the Bar later.
Breakfast was fantastic. Full English was cooked perfectly using quality ingredients...set us up for the day!
Staff were well trained and friendly.

We were travelling down to Cornwall/Devon and decided to stay here en route on a travelzoo deal, mainly because the chef has been on Great British Menu, although we still haven't seen any of the programmes yet. Check in was good, informative and friendly. Room 6 was given, which overlooked the courtyard. It is an old building, so we can accept it is not custom built in terms of room configuration, so there are cupboards not wardrobes and the old sash windows are hard to open and close. Room a little tired, in terms of decorations but bathroom large and clean. Large bed with good quality linens. Good TV and DVD player.
Food elevated to a different level. Tasting menu but no menu provided as we were told it would be local produce and a surprise. We actually prefer to know what we are going to eat, as tasting menus it is nice to anticipate what is going to be served and also to look for the subtle, delicate ingredients and how they have been prepared. Bar - very friendly, excellent hosting and very reasonable wine - cost £16 bottle. Amuse bouche was chicken ball on lemon risotto. Okay nothing special. First course, ham terrine with a fried egg was excellent, and we have eaten a lot of ham terrine. 5/5 Next was wild mushroom porridge with shaved truffle. Never eaten truffle and did not seem to add much to dish, but texture and flavours fantastic. Next course was scallop with confit egg. If this was the fish dish, where was the fish? Egg was nice but too sloppy, the potato espuma had good flavour but not enough texture to 'mop up the egg yolk'. Also too many eggs and the fried egg on the first course was too good. Next course, beef and ox tongue ball. Beautiful, star of the plate was the tongue and a nice change from pigs head. 5/5 Pina colada panacotta desert, small and very rich and not something we would have chosen but beautiful flavours and textures. Next - tastes of chocolate with white choc macaroon, waters, the arabesque choc was to die for. Lastly cheese board for hubby which he thought was 5/5, chutney and 1 of the cheeses was outstanding, all at no extra cost. Apricot souflee for me, because i had said I don't do cheese. Unfortunately, I don't do souflees either, and this has confirmed it for me, (I do keep giving them a go, but no more). Hubby ate it though and said it was okay. Overall, good food but if they are aspiring to michelin stars, need to upgrade the service and furniture etc
Breakfast, next morning, informal but friendly, good produce, meaty sausages, black pudding.
Overall, friendly break with very good food, at a good price. Would definitely recommend and would return.

Wow went on a living social voucher, therfore, did not expect a bedroom with a four poster bed. The bedroom was large with two arm chairs and a large screen television which was brilliant for my husband to watch the semi final of the world cup( except see below). The staff were all really helpfull and are a credit to the hotel. The reason for the four and not five stars is that our meal was booked for 7pm and although we were down for the meal in plenty of time we were not seated until 7.30 no explanation given and we didn,t finish the meal until gone 10. 15. The meal was 6 courses which were good but the mains would have been lifted by the inclusion of some micro salad or baby veg

Room Tip: room 2 although to the front was very quiet

We have just spent the weekend at the Raven hotel in much Wenlock and had a fantastic time. The hotel is in a central location in much Wenlock close to shops and the museum. We were given a warm welcome when we arrived and shown up to our room number 4. We were told that this was the newly refurbished room and it was really lovely, with a triple aspect 2 pretty easy chairs and a large bathroom. We had the 7 course tasting menu which actually turned into nine courses with the chef Jason Hodnett's complimentary additions which included a pre-desert desert absolutely brilliant ! The whole dinner was an amazing experience with well-trained waiting team describing the dishes in detail for each course. A reasonably priced comprehensive wine list complimented this to a Tee. Breakfast the next morning was perfectly cooked and served by a friendly manager a perfect end to a perfect stay. We thoroughly recommend this hotel its fantastic!!

We have stayed here several years running as we come to see friends in the local Shakespeare play they hold each year. The hotel is fine a bit pricey but ok. We did eat in the hotel the first night and it is hard to review as clearly the chef is very talented but we left thinking the meal was more showing off than good dining. To put it in perspective we went to the Talbot next day which was much nicer and half the cost. In terms of constructive feedback I suggest the portions should be bigger, less fiddly stuff and make sure it is warm.
