We came as part of a group and had the most wonderful stay at this amazing hotel absolutley beautiful views, rooms very comfortable and the most amazing food. Coffee taken in front of the log fire. Totally unspoilt and stunning countryside. Very quiet. Every morning a suggested walk and activities are put on the table. The staff are very attentive and could not be more helpful. Not surprised that people return again and again .

Stayed late September with a family group for a birthday celebration. A well run family owned country house hotel with a deserved reputation. Great food especially the breakfast selection. Location perfect for peace and reflection, a special place.

BOOKING
The booking was undertaken via the telephone for I always like to speak to a person rather than use the internet. Any problems can easily be clarified. This was a pleasant experience with the hotel taking a deposit from my card.
LOCATION
This hotel is in the middle of nowhere. If you are using a statnv ensure that you put the correct postcode in, unlike me who transposed two letters and ended up five mile distant!
RECEPTION
The hotel is accessed either up a ramp, or external steps, thus the hotel is not really suitable for anyone other than the able-bodied.
The reception is a desk in the bar entrance and a young lady immediately welcomed us, got us to sign-in and then showed us to our room. Very quick, efficient and friendly. We were offered help with our luggage, but I am reluctant to let a young girl carry heavy cases, so carried them myself.
BEDROOM.
The room was reasonably sized, but not large, we were in the 'Rectory'. This room had windows looking across the valley, and a second window looking up the garden. The sun was streaming into the room when we arrived, this always improves the first impression. I don't think the staff arranged that especially for us!
The room was neat, tidy and clean, with an ensuite bathroom. This was also clean. The bathroom floor was a little uneven, it is an old building and we have certainly stayed in rooms with significantly worse unevenness.
There was a flat screen television which we did watch but as we do not have one at home it is not important. The control did require a new battery, but we forgot to mention that, so the staff were probably unaware.
My wife is not a very good sleeper in a 'new' bed, but she had three very restful nights.
DINNERS
The food served each evening was well cooked. There was effectively a four/five course meal each evening, if one included coffee.
There was a choice of four different starters and four main couses, which were different every evening. There was generally a reasonable selection and it was obvious that the incredients were fresh. [I did wonder where they obtained asparagus at this time of year.]
Our first night was a Saturday and there was an outside group dining. Unfortunately one of that party was ill during her meal. The problems were dealt with very quickly and efficiently by the staff, and the carpet cleaned. I didn't see this activity as my back was to the table in question, but my wife had a clear view and complimented the staff on their activity.
WAITING STAFF.
In the main the staff were very efficient, but there were times when one wondered if they had forgotten our order. There appeared to be adequate staffing numbers but there was an obvious lack of organisation, although everyone was polite and efficient when food did arrive. One evening there was a delay in the serving of the vegetables which was unnecessary.
COFFEE
One slight criticism is that the meal price should include coffee. I undertsand that not everyone likes coffee after a meal, but it is inappropriate to be charged extra. Up the prices and include it. It would also be an opportunity for guests to buy after-dinner drinks, something that does not appear to happen very often.
BREAKFASTS
The breakfasts were exceptional. There was an extremely wide selection of fresh and preserved fruits, some picked from their own garden, and these provided an excellent start to the meal.
The cooked breakfasts were very good, save for one day, presumably the chef's day in bed, when the susages were slightly over-cooked. I am certain that this was the exception rather than the rule.
Every morning there was a sheet suggesting different visitor attractions, walks and other ideas for the enjoyment of the guests. A nice idea.
OVERALL
An excellent break and we would certainly visit again.
The area is very rural, quiet and there is nothing for children, I am unsure if the hotel accepts them, but we werr gald that there were none present during our stay.

Room Tip: If our room is typical I am sure that all rooms are pleasant.

We visited this year for our wedding anniversary having been here quite a few times before. As ever, it doesn't disappoint - its an absolutely fantastic country hotel with superb food and lovely rooms, all with different features. Miles and Audrey, the owners, are great hosts, passionate to ensure guests have all they need. The restaurant is full of character, the menu changes every evening with excellent choices of home made, organic and local produce all cooked and presented beautifully. Breakfast if full and varied, again from local and organic produce and really sets you up for a day walking through the lovely countryside In which the hotel is set.
We will certainly be back again and again!

Food excellent - though asked for a recipe and was told the Chef didn't pass them on.
After dinner Tea & Coffee charged for at over £8 per day.
Coach Room Comfortable but a tiny bit damp - in the middle of summer!
Dogs not allowed in public rooms after 6pm, though we did manage to get the dog into the Bar after supper, thought that the rules were a bit steep, considering most of the residents were walkers or pet owners and this is a Dog friendly hotel.
Liked the Staff and the management most accommodating with maps and ideas for walks etc.
