We have just returned from a two night stay at the Pen-y-Dyffryn hotel. The weather was awful but you would hardly notice once sat in the cosy lounges.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon just after an amazing storm, the hotel had just got the electricity back on! This did not faze them, we were shown to our room and an extra heater put on as the heating had only just been sorted. We were then given a welcome cup of tea and scones in front of the open fire in the lounge.

We stayed in the Champagne room and it was lovely a comfy king size bed and great views even through the rain! The bathroom has a huge double jacuzzi bath, shower gel and shampoo are provided although no hair conditioner or body lotion, there is also a large walk in shower. A decent hair dryer is also to be found in the room as well as tea and coffee making facilities.

We ate in the restaurant both evenings and the food was fantastic with a good choice for each course all freshly cooked. Breakfast was also good with a good choice of hot and cold dishes.

We would also like to mention the staff, they were friendly and attentive and nothing was to much trouble, a special mention to Leonie who was lovely.

We hope to visit this hotel again soon.

We had a lovely late-January break here and relished the cosy, very friendly welcome, complimentary tea and scones on arrival and all! Great food, great scenery and great walking....great incentive to go back SOON! We couldn't fault it.

This is in a really beautiful location, just on the English/Welsh border near Oswestry. The hotel itself is an old rectory and has been beautifully done up. The staff are attentive and friendly. There are log fires in the lounge, boardgames and a well stocked bar. Our room (Garden room) was great: well decorated, view over the garden, huge bed and spa bath. The food was very good - slightly better on our second night than the first, but maybe the main chef had a night off. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. There are suggested walks routes from the hotel front door and OS maps available to borrow which we found very helpful. This isn't an uber stylish / contemporary / top-end luxury place, but it is comfortable, welcoming, well decorated and maintained country hotel. Recommended.

We had a 2 night stay for our wedding anniversary. We had afternoon tea on our arrival by a roaring log fire....a good start to our stay. The evening meals were wonderful and the staff very friendly. They gave us an anniversary card which was a lovely thought and we shall certainly be returning

Stayed just one night and it was lovely - the coach house above the hotel was perfect - stunning views, comfortable room, no complaints. Greeted by a home made afternoon tea on arrival in front of a roaring fire and friendly staff, our stay was off to a great start. One tiny disappointment, very minor, was the starter part of the evening meal which was disappointing but the rest delightful.

We were very happy indeed with our three nights at Pen-y-Dyffryn. Our room (in the coach house) was not huge but very well appointed and with a magnificent view over the garden and hills. The hotel is full of charm and comfort - log fires, large settees, nice period feel - and the service is excellent. Staff seem happy, and are efficient and welcoming without any sense of being too well coached. The food is first rate, and we particularly enjoyed the meat - fine pork fillets and guinea fowl - and the delicious desserts. The breakfasts too are really good, with smoked haddock and kippers and lovely fruit, and properly cooked scrambled eggs. Many personal touches, such as sheet with daily suggestions for walks and local activities, and bowls of fruit and sweeties left around, make this a special hotel. We hope it won't be long before we visit again.

Room Tip: Coach house rooms good for dog owners and for those who might like to enjoy a private drink on their...

Hotel is in an old rectory out in the country. Rooms are all individual. Ours was quite small but very well appointed and designed. Staff were friendly and efficient. We were given afternoon tea on arrival and sat before a roaring fire. A varied menu was provided and all the food we had was magnificent. Wonderful breakfast. Fruits of the forest on my all bran with fresh yoghurt set me up for a cooked breakfast which included black budding properly cooked not fried.
