just the two of us called at the original ball on 29/7/14 at 7.50pm for food to be told they had a table of 17 arriving at 8pm so they couldn't serve us food even though there were tables free!!!..which we found a bit odd. Because the décor appealed to us.....too many written signs though.....we returned to try the food, this time booked a table only to be given the table by the door with awkward legs that you struggled to sit around but a nice couple sat next to us gave us their table as they had finished......ordered our food at 7.50pm arrived 8.35 pm and yet only 2 other tables eating.......only one vegetarian option .....and if allergic to diary then vegetarian option is no good........ ordered red onion and courgette tartlet starter as a main meal but it turned into a mushroom and pine nut tartlet on lettuce not mixed salad by the time it got to the table!!!.....whilst this was going on with few customers eating and numerous tables free they turned 10 customers away!!!!......all in all not very good and judging by our 2 visits all I would say as a fledgling business they can not afford to turn so many customers away as they wont come back....will we? probably not...shame as it could be much better.

The interior of the pub is oldy worlde the landlady was very friendly and food was good. Normal pub grub but with some refinements and the price was reasonable. Would recommend it to my friends.

We visited here yesterday afternoon to find that food was not served until after 5.30 - the lady at the bar was very pleasant and, as this was not unusual for a Saturday in most pubs, and were happy to have a drive around the area before coming back later as the menu looked good and the atmosphere was inviting.
On our return another member of staff was behind the bar, struggling to pull a pint and was waiting to get the barrel changed. There were a few reserved signs on tables, so we asked for a table for 2. The lady at the bar couldn't tell us if we could have a table, so she asked another member of staff (who was possibly new, as later was asked by another visitor where the toilets were and he didn't know) who didn't know, so another member of staff came out and after much discussion agreed we could have a table. In total, it took them 15 minutes to decide whether they could give us a table. Assuming that they, therefore, must have lots of pre-bookings, we asked where we should sit. No-one was sure and, after another 5 minutes discussion, we were told we could sit where we liked and that the table would be set up. Apparently, plonking 2 tablemats and a knife, fork and spoon pre-wrapped in a serviette on the table without asking which seat people were sitting at is 'setting the table'. No condiments were offered.
As the lady at the bar could not tell that the real ale was not ready after pulling 3 cloudy pints, also noted by another customer, we decided to have a soft drink instead.
We ordered our food - the chicken and cranberry roulade - and it arrived quickly, although served with peas instead of the mixed vegetables stated. The large chicken breast was well cooked, moist and tasty and the quality of the bacon good. Slightly disappointed with the mash and sauce as they appeared to be instant, but this was reflected in the price.
When we had finished, and the plates were taken away we then asked for our bill. There was another wait and we had to ask again only to be told that they were trying to work out what drinks we had - so WE told THEM and once we knew the cost of the drinks, had added it up before they had.
The pub has been badly let down by the service by these two staff. As mentioned previously, the young gentleman appeared to be new and, if this is the case, has been let down by the management by not receiving proper training.

Popped in for Sunday lunch, really enjoyed it.

The pub looks great inside, lovely old beams and was very comfortable.

Food was good and not too expensive. Would definitely return.
