“Great place, great food and great hosts.”
Reviewed 23 August 2011

Cameron and Magy make great hosts and Cameron's food is superb. Nice touches such as soft bath robes and sherry and port on the house make this place special.

....... then Greystones would be it." Very difficult to add to the superlatives already given here other than to testify to their accuracy, and say a big thankyou to Cameron and Magy for their warmth and hospitality, which really made our weekend. Cameron is a very talented chef who went out of his way to make sure my 'fussy' partner was catered for with the most wonderful meal we've had in a long time.

Quiet location, fantastic accommodation, wonderful hosts (inc zac), food to die for, and really nice other quests (you have to be discerning to come here you see!).

We'll most definitely be back, and hopefully for the rumoured cooking courses with Cameron and Magy's son Alex in January.

Cameron and Magy Beard are to be congratulated on their wonderful bed and breakfast home, quietly situated in the lovely countryside around Oswestry. We were made to feel so welcome and immediately at home by Cameron on our arrival. Indeed we were greeted like long lost friends although we'd never met before! Exploration of our bedroom suites, a name which hardly does justice to the accommodation, revealed a depth of character and quirkiness in the wonderful pictures and ornaments. My favourite was the painting of Elvis Presley. Then a stroll around the two acres of beautiful gardens, a game of football on the lawn followed by an elicit cuddle with "Trinny and Susanna". To understand this you have to visit Greystones yourself!

After enjoying drinks in the most comfortable lounge, we were then treated to a marvellous dinner, cooked by Cameron and served by his "waitress", Magy - his delightful wife. An excellent night's sleep was followed by a sumptuous breakfast, indeed if one had eated everything on offer one would not have been able to move from the table!

Finally, we managed to wrench ourselves away but not before Cameron had bid us a most fond farewell. We managed to leave a memento of our visit in the form of a shirt and pair of jeans but Cameron, being the man he is, resisted the temptation to keep them and most kindly asked Magy to return them to us safely.

Just bewitching !!

Cameron and Magy Beard are terrific hosts and their place in Crickheath near Oswestry, Shropshire counts as one of the very best B&B experiences we've ever had. It is well worth driving out of your way for their hospitality.

The sleeping rooms are outstanding and, unlike many similar places in the area, are not too chintzy or old fashioned. I didn't see a pink doily anywhere. They are supremely comfortable and well appointed multi-room suites with every possible amenity. We loved the large modern bathrooms with an outstanding oversize shower. Frequent business travelers will be pleased that they skipped the basic Gilchrist and Soames toiletries and offered premium soaps and lotions.

The private sitting room with big screen and comfy sofa had its own Tea and Coffee making facilities. A water cooler and complementary port and sherry in the room were an unexpected upgrade. (Even our Five star London hotel didn't offer these amenities.) We also really enjoyed the complimentary WIFI. We were able to catch up on email and make plans for our onward journey.

The separate bedroom overlooked the tranquil garden and was very comfortable with high end sheets and pillows.

All of that said, the REAL reason to make this lovely place your stop in the Midlands is the service and hospitality extended by Cameron and Magy. Literally from the moment we arrived in the driveway we felt welcome. Their happy large family dog gave us a tour of the gardens and the view towards the river. We were ushered warmly into their living room as if we were long expected friends. Within minutes we'd met our fellow guests and were chatting over a cocktail. No check in formalities apart from a quick and friendly tour. After one gin and tonic I was accepting congratulations from my partner for my excellent ONLINE booking talents.

We decided to forgo a trek into nearby Oswestry and instead had dinner in with our hosts. What a terrific choice. We enjoyed a lovely meal and some very nice wine. It was all very high quality. More importantly, it struck the perfect balance between formality of special guests and informal dinner party. All the ingredients were procured locally and everything was fresh. I doubt there is a local restaurant to equal their home cooking at any price.

While we planned our trip to Mid Wales to visit Powis Castle and the surrounding area, I think that anyone headed this direction should make a point to stay with the Beards. Their warm hospitality and outstanding food are worth the trip.

I have just read all the glowing reviews and agree with each and every one: Greystones is simply the best B&B in the UK, that's what they all come down to: the hospitable hosts, the marvellous food, the luxurious comfort, the serene environment. And, I have to agree with the chap from London who wanted to keep Greystones a secret for himself - it's so fantastic! Hope to come back again soon.

We have stayed in many hotels, Self Catering and B&B accommodation in the UK & Abroad. We can honestly say this has been the best ever. To all our fellow explorers out there - if this is one of your options, bring Greystones to the top of your list.

As well as the exemplary quality and presentation of the food, the rooms & decor were of excellent. In particular the affability, banter and sense of humour of our hosts made it so special.
