“Avoid if you have disabilities”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

We were there for a wedding, and were horrified at the almost complete absence of disabled access for the elderly members of our party. At one stage a small steep wooden ramp appeared, but most of the function rooms are accessed by stairs, and this caused us very real problems. This really does need to be sorted out.

Stayed here last night on business. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Pool was lovely, big enough to get some serious exercise and quiet. Drinks in bar not overpriced. Shower good and bed comfortable.Only complaint was that although not dirty, the sheets on the bed had what looked like oil stains on.

Room Tip: I had room 51 a family room but better quality than those in the new wing.

I was advised to keep clear of this hotel by a work colleague due to the amount of Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz vehicles parked in the car park! In my opinion, if its good enough for them, then it is for me too!
I have stayed here at least seven times and have enjoyed each stay very much. The rooms are great, clean and very comfortable. My preferred room is Room 11 as this was really huge and comfortable and at the time, was unwell. The large TV was excellent in Room 11, much better than in some of the other rooms but no complaints really.
The bar food menu is a little limited (but great food) and there is something on it for everyone's tastes - I'm a fussy eater anyway. The service is excellent by all staff, including the very friendly cleaners, bar and waiting staff. Wi-Fi is a bit hit and miss depending on which room you're allocated to but it is very strong in the bar area. I haven't utilised the recreational facilities at this venue but from all accounts, worthwhile if you're into this kind of thing.
I can't recommend this hotel enough. It is a fantastic place to stay and it adds something special to a trip knowing that you're going to be very comfortable, looked after in a lovely building that I am always sad to leave. Looking forward to my next visit in 2014.

Room Tip: No preference - they're all good but Room 11 is really comfortable.

Booked a long weekend for a very decent price. We wanted a relax hotel with a spa and that is what it is.
Value for money it would be a 4 star but all over I am sorry but have to give it the stars the hotel actually is, 3 stars.
Don't get me wrong, with what niggling points I write here it's not a bad stay by any means, specially not if you get it for a decent price.
Problem points are the Spa. It looks great in the pictures but in reality it needs maintenance. If somebody could start by scrubbing it thoroughly with a limescale remover it might look a lot better. There is in my eyes neglect. Limescale covered tiles, surround of the pool that needs a new floor due to the discoloration, wood that could do at the bottoms with sanding and re staining, the locker rooms look in a way a bit tired, sauna and steam room look a bit tired. It would be good business sense to close it for a week, get a team in, revamp the place as it does have potential to become nice again. But, we did have a good time bubbling away, swimming and steaming/saunaing.
Hotel, main building does look nice on the outside but a few of the side wings are not in style unfortunately. But it looks well kept. On the inside, bit odd reception that does look a bit, uh, primitive is the word I guess. The hotel is a maze too but you will find your way around eventually. Room, we had the cheapest one and it was a bit tight for such a big building but adequate. it was clean, bit dated in style in certain area's but all over good value for money. I bit more light tight curtains would be nice, we had a room with some sunshine in the morning and it was just too light in the room. Reasonably quiet too, but we had a room near the end of the building at the back so that must have helped. Did not make it to breakfasts so no idea how that is.
We had a bit of a mishap with the door lock that did not want to work up on return and even the crew had challenges to get it to work so we went to the Spa and a few hours later once it was finally fixed they brought us the new keys to the Spa, so, nothing really wrong with the service.
So, how to the 3 stars then? Well, the above all make it just give the feel of a 3 star place. Great location for exploring a bit of Wales, not bad for a bid of relaxation, but not perfect either, it needs lifting up a little bit.

We stayed whilst visiting the Ironbridge museums and found it ideally situated.
The hotel has extensive grounds and great facilities including health club and pool. Staff and food were excellent throughout our three night stay. The only downside for us was the lack of seating in our room and a distinct lack of interior design flair, nevertheless, would be happy to recommend it as a peaceful place to stay situated close to the M54.

We recently spent a weekend at this hotel, built in 1718 it is a very large house with extensive grounds. The house has been refurbished to include modern en-suite rooms. The food was in the main excellent and the staff attentive to ones needs. The cons were the number of stairs for elderly folk, no lift, anyone using a wheelchair would need to circumnavigate the house to a back door to get in, very few rooms on ground floor. The house because of its size was like a rabbit warren. The price for B & B was very reasonable, though the food a little pricey.

We booked this hotel to stay whilst attending a business conference at the Telford International Centre (TIC). It looked very inviting on the website particularly the health club facilities including swimming pool, and the free wi-fi "available throughout the hotel". It has plenty of parking and is a very easy and quick drive to the TIC (15 mins). There were no traffic holdups on either the Friday or Saturday mornings.

Our room (Classic) was very small by modern standards but comfortable and clean. Facilities were limited, there was no fridge and the TV was very old with a separate old freeview set top box. The sound quality was poor with a continual buzzing. There were no coat hooks on which to hang our wet outdoor coats. But importantly, the wi-fi simply doesn't work. It kept dropping out literally every 2 minutes and the speed when connected was dreadfully slow. It was simply unusable.

The upstairs corridors are rather dark and gloomy and have a characteristic musty smell. The whole place is in dire need of some TLC and lick of paint. Also the corridors go up and down, ie there a small flights of 2 or 3 stairs every few yards or so, lots of fire doors and there are no lifts. So some guests may need help from staff to get to their room.

On the other hand, the lounge and bar are modern, bright with contemporary furniture and we had very good bar-meals on 2 nights. The service was good but the staff were themselves frustrated at having to wander up the corridor to find a signal for the credit-card machine each time we paid. Again, we were unable to connect to the wi-fi in the bar. Prices were reasonable.

Breakfast times are rather late for a business visit starting at 7.30am during the week and 8.00 on Saturday. Unfortunately, there was a problem on Saturday and the breakfast buffet did not appear until 8.15am by which time the restaurant was full and a queue had developed at the servery. With a 9.00am start at the TIC several guests had to grab some cereal and leave before the buffet was available. Not good.

On Friday night we went to the swimming pool for a swim. However, the Health Club is not limited to hotel guests and is clearly popular with the local residents. In fact the pool is used by a local club and there were Children's swimming classes in progress during the evening. The pool was still available to use - just rather full and noisy. Make sure you get your timing right to use the health club facilities which include an excellent gym.

On the positive sides, the expansive grounds are wonderful to walk around, or in which to sit and read etc. There are woods, a lake and plenty of wildlife to see.

This hotel clearly caters for weddings and it would be a great venue. I also think it could be nice for a weekend break type of stay where there were no time pressures and you don't need internet connections. The spa seems to be pretty empty during the day. Go for a bigger room - not the "Classic".

But for business use it is sadly wanting and really not up to scratch. Cheap is not always cheerful.

Room Tip: Avoid the "Classic" rooms.
