I wanted to walk in the mountains and not go near a car for a couple of days. You can walk up Cader Idris and many other fabulous trails from the front door of this perfect location. Huge breakfasts and evening meals, topped off with Welsh whisky meant not having to drive anywhere. My husband, Calum, wanted to try out his new sound recording gear - the Retreat Room had enough space and plug sockets to keep even Eric Clapton happy. Add to that stunning views and luxury furnishings and you have the perfect B&B for the likes of couples like us! Thanks John & Ricky; we hope to return.

Room Tip: Retreat Room if you have lots of gear.

It was great to meet you all and we are pleased that your husband was able to make music in our Rectory Retreat while you tried to conquer Cadair Idris with your friends via various routes - sorry there was too much snow for you to get to the summit. We really appreciate you taking the time to post this and we wish you well with your own hospitality adventure.
Our best wishes, John and Ricky - joint owners.

We visited for the second time in March and this time managed to book the Craig Goch room -- even better than the downstairs room on our last visit. It has all been beautifully redecorated, tasteful and relaxing.
We didn't get the best weather and went off to see the slate mines at Blaenau Ffestiniog. The slate looks better when it is wet! Then it was great to come 'home' for a warm bath and wonderful food.
Thank you John and Ricky for another lovely stay.

Hello Anne from Talyllyn, it was good to meet you again and I am pleased that this time we were able to accommodate you in our upstairs Craig Goch room overlooking the lake and that you approve of the changes we have made since your last visit. We hope to welcome you both here again.

We were blown away by the hospitality, quality of the meals and the accommodation. And then there are the stunning views.
John will entertain you with some excellent videos of the area, Ricky will cook you some amazing meals which can be washed down with Welsh cider and whiskey. After a day walking in the mountains is is great to sink into a deep warm bath.
If you are staying in southern Snowdonia then this is the place to stay. We shall certainly will return.

This was our secong visit to the lovely rectory.

Love the new decor this year, just like a luxury hotel ! Spotless room with great view over the lake and a massive bathroom (Craig Goch) with fantastic deep bath and huge shower (perfect when a silly accident has left you with a swollen knee).

Great atmosphere thanks to Ricky and John and absolutely amazing food! Everything was delicious and they managed to cater for my slightly odd food intollerences. I especially loved the chocolate fondant surprise and of course the lovely lamb!

Wish I could visit more often.

It was great to welcome you both to The Old Rectory on the lake for your second Easter on the run. We are pleased that you approve of our new makeover and that you enjoyed your three days here with us at Talyllyn. Many others make favourable comments about Ricky's dark chocolate fondant surprise - I personally think it is his signature desert dish!
Best wishes from Marian and John and Ricky - joint owners The Old Rectory on the lake.
PS Hope the knee is getting slowly better.

We enjoyed an excellent and relaxing 2 night stay here earlier in March. We stayed in one of the smaller rooms I was told but it was still very comfortable and was full of small touches that were very much appreciated - gas heater so you'll never be cold, self lit mirror, heated towel rail etc.

Breakfast was excellent, a cut above other B&B breakfasts.

The owners, John and Ricky made us feel very welcome and were extremely helpful with giving on advice of what we would like to do in the area.

The setting is truly stunning.

We were lucky enough to see Otters on lake both mornings we were there, which I'm told doesn't always happen. Seeing these animals in the wild shows how special this lake is!

I cannot it recommend highly enough!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about your two day stay with us here at Talyllyn and more importantly posting the amazing pictures you took of the two otters. You were so lucky to see them and photograph them both playing in the water - we think it is a mother and an ever growing pup. It was great to meet you both.
Our best wishes, John - joint owner.

Our second stay here and I would not hesitate to stay again.
Delightfully situated at the foot of Cadair Idris with stunning views across the lake this is a special B&B. The rooms are equipped to a high standard and those at the front of the Rectory allow you to enjoy uninterrupted views across the llyn to the crags beyond whilst lazing in bed.
This is a restful place with a relaxed atmosphere but great attention to detail for guest comfort. Evening meals are cooked and presented to a standard which you would find hard to equal in restaurants in the local area..
Recommended.

We were fortunate enough to come across The Old Rectory on the Lake on Tripadvisor. We were looking for somewhere we could relax, which was quiet and in a beautiful surrounding. The Old Rectory was all this and more.

John and Ricky were amazing hosts, being both welcoming and extremely accommodating. They have a great knowledge of the area and are more than willing to offer advice and help, so that you get the most out of your stay in this picturesque location.

The food was spectacular and Ricky must be commended for his skills in the kitchen, even if he is highly modest about it! I have paid more and eaten less well in many restaurants.

We stayed in the Tall-y-lyn room which was well presented, clean, and had a very comfy bed! It has all the items you would need including kettle, toiletries, modern TV (Samsung 3D smart TV in ours), and Wi-Fi (which is free of charge).

There are plenty of things to do, most of which involve walks around this very scenic location. We decided to take up the challenge of climbing to the summit of Cader Idris. John was very helpful in this regard and briefed us on the different routes we could take pointing them out on the map. The trek to the top via the Minffordd path whilst tiring, rewards with spectacular views on a clear day. We would highly recommend doing this. After this trek we were glad to relieve our aching joints in the Hot Tub at The Old Rectory.

Another thing to do is go Otter spotting at the lake. John mentioned to us that the lake was frequented by some Otters (a testament to the cleanliness of the lake). On our last morning I decided to try and find the Otters. To my surprise I managed to spot the Otters in the middle of the lake, and to my amazement after ten minutes they swam right up to the grass in front of me to eat!! Suffice to say I managed to snap a couple of pictures of them, which topped off a lovely stay.

We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it to anyone.

Thank you John and Ricky !!

Michael and Gemma

Hello from south Snowdonia,
Your close up pictures of the otters and that view taken while you were walking up Cadair Idris are just incredible! Thanks for sharing them with us and also for posting this amazing detailed review. We really enjoyed meeting you both and I have passed on your kind comments about his food to Ricky. We hope that you will return in the future and in the meantime the best of luck with your respective careers.
Kindest regards from John, Ricky and the otters of Talyllyn!
