“Beautiful location, lovely owners”
Reviewed 1 May 2014 via mobile

I spent three days here with my girlfriend. The setting is stunning; the lake and mountains are absolutely beautiful. The quiet was broken only by the sound of wind on the lake and the occasional bleating of lambs in the distance. We walked up Cadair Idris on the first day of our stay, going straight from the front door of the B&B up the mountain and back, no car required. Wonderful.

John and Ricky are great hosts who know the area well. They strike the perfect balance between entertaining you and leaving you in peace when you want it! The food was delicious and is highly recommended.

My experience couldn't have been better. I'm certain to visit again.

What a descriptive review and we so happy Adam that you appreciated your three days with us so much. Well done for getting to the top of Cadair Idris but have to admit we were getting a tad concerned when you had not returned by early evening but you certainly had a great adventure in amazing weather. We wish your girlfriend well with her horticultural career and if the Army ever brings you this way you know where we are!
Our kindest regards to you both, John and Ricky.

We have just enjoyed a wonderful long weekend at the old rectory. A beautiful place in a stunning tranquil location. A wonderfully warm welcome from John and Ricky with superb breakfasts and evening meals and recommendations on the local area. The room (Craig Goch) had beautiful lake views and a large bathroom with rolltop bath and shower. We did the climb from the hotel to Cadair Idris - which was a stunning walk (about 5 hrs), and a trip up the coast to Barmouth, Harlech, Port Merion. I'm hoping we will be back soon. Thanks John & Ricky

Room Tip: We stayed in Craig Goch overlooking the lake. A lovely room with very comfy bed and large bathroom...

I am so pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you got up Cadair Idris from our home. I am due to run up and down the mountain from the other side next month so I know just how hard it can be! Thanks for the very kind comments you have written on here and it was our pleasure to have you both to stay.
My best wishes, Ricky - chef and joint owner

I have stayed in several places in the area, including camping in a field on a nearby farm, over many years. This was our first time at the Old Rectory. I don't think I stopped smiling. There was a very warm welcome from our host, John. We were fortunate that this was an evening when dinner was being served and I'm very glad it was. Ricky is an outstanding chef and the portions were just right. Our room was the smallest in the house, having originally been a study, but was well-equipped and very comfortable. The superb breakfast was enhanced by the view of the lake from the dining room. We were treated to some interesting videos made by John, chronicling a year in the life of the lake and the flooding a couple of years ago. There are also examples of his excellent photography around the interior. We couldn't have been made more welcome if we were personal guests of John and Ricky. Thank you so much for this amazing experience.

The only downside to this place was that we only stopped one night!! It's only an hour, or less away from home, but I would love to go back on a regular basis. Stunning views, great walks, quiet, short drive to the beach, wonderful wildlife (Otters and Red Kites if your lucky) Breakfast was perfect, and the menu looked great for other times. John and Ricky were great, making sure we had what we needed, from food and drink to information on walks and the surrounding area. Can't wait to go again!!
Thanks John And Ricky?

We have just enjoyed the most wonderful Sunday lunch at The Old Rectory on the Lake to celebrate my wife's birthday with our daughter, son and daughter in law.

Another wonderful feast prepared by the master of the kitchen Ricky and great value.

The Old Rectory is a very special place with always a wonderfully warm welcome, and fabulous views across the lake.

If you are looking for an excellent relaxed Sunday lunch get yourself booked!

A beautiful slice of tranquillity in a beautiful part of Wales. Fantastic scenery, ever-changing weather and warm and welcoming hospitality from John & Ricky. Our room had a lovely view of the lake,& a very comfy bed (want that mattress!!). The bathroom was spacious & a soak in the 'floating' bath was a good end to a busy week. Supper & breakfast was delicious - hard to make a decision on which option to choose from off the menu - thank you Ricky. Thank you John for the lovely scenic footage and 'local gossip'! The girls are looking forward to meeting Marian in the summer!! May the Old Rectory continue to prosper & look forward to updates via FB.

Just spent three days here ... absolutely beautiful location; wonderful accommodation; such welcoming and hospitable hosts; menu and dinners to die for! Perfect break away from London. Will go back again sometime soon for sure.

Room Tip: All rooms are beautifully and tastefully furnished. We were in the cosy Tal-y-llyn - ground floor.
