We were encouraged to go to The Old Rectory on the lake at Talyllyn by the glowing reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed at all. It is in an incredible location just on the slopes of Cader Idris where nothing is to much trouble for the attentive folk who run this amazing place. Our room was fab, with stunning views across the lake, and our bathroom was to die for! Ricky's food is top notch and worthy of any London restaurant - apparently everything is sourced locally and is then cooked to order. The result is an amazing dining experience while enjoying a beautiful view over Talyllyn. But the highlight for us was the evening dip in the outside hot tub - it was a perfect night and as the moon slowly came up we wallowed in the bubbling waters - with a glass of the good stuff in our hands we just looked up the lake and were absolutely captivated by it all. After a few attempts David mastered the timer on our camera and we managed to capture the images we have attached here - a great memento of a memorable night. We don't think you will be disappointed either!!! Steph and David.

We had a 3 night stay in the Craig Goch room. The room itself is huge with a fantastic view of the lake, it has a seperate toilet and seperate bathroom and it was great to sit in the freestanding bath with a glass of wine watching the scenery.

We ate there on 2 nights of our stay and were surprised by the variety on the menu which changes daily. Food was excellent and there is a good choice of wines to accompany it. Breakfasts are worth spending some time over, with a choice of cereals and fresh fruit followed by an 'any combination you can think of' cooked breakfast, all accompanied by fantastic views along the lake.

The walk around the lake is a great way to work the breakfast off or you could just sit and watch the herons show the fisherman how to do it properly.

Take a trip to Portmerion and Portmahog whilst you're there - the afternoon cream teas are fab and the views are fantastic or just sit and read in the garden by the lake.

John and Ricky are geat - happy to give advice on trips or leave you to your own devices - whatever you prefer. The fantastic location, lovely food and friendly welcome will definitely draw us back.

The Old Rectory was wonderful. As a hotelier I am often wary of where I stay and was delighted to find charming hosts and a wonderful bed and breakfast. My parents and I chose the location for some peace and quiet and The Old Rectory certainly delivers. It is situated on the edge of the lake and some of the bedrooms and the dining room have great views. There are two gardens from where you can sit and quietly watch the boats on the lake and there is also a sauna to relax after a days walking.

The Old Rectory was completely renovated by John and Ricki and the result is a very stylish property throughout, especially the bathrooms which are well designed and reminded me of some 5 star properties I know well. For me, most importantly, it was clean.

Ricki is the cook and does a really good job of using local produce and cooking it naturally, he is really talented. Breakfast is cooked to order and the choice is excellent. Dinner is also served at The Old Rectory and it's well worth staying in!

John, Ricki and Jajub provide a friendly, warm service and nothing is too much trouble.
I understand they are going to be creating an extension to the property to provide guests with even greater space and views of the wonderful surroundings.
