“Amazing opportunity to stay in something so unique”

On arrival we were blown away by the amount of history and the location in which we were about to spend our next week. St Marys is certainly a very unique place to stay and is one which will stay with us forever. Everything you need is on hand without compromising the value of traditional ideals.

We were not so fortunate with the weather and I can imagine during much better weather we would have to be able to explore the surrounds much more. We did manage to sit by the lake on a fine evening and have a beverage from the local hotel a very relaxing expererience. The drive down to St Marys is a sight to behold as the lake opens up before you as you head on down the winding road.

A stay for someone who is looking for something different in a beautiful location.

Hello Both ..Thank you for your positive review and thanks for venturing to come so far to spend a special time here at St.Mary's ..I'm glad you weren't disappointed .
It was wise to bring your bikes with you as there are some brilliant places to visit ...
I'm pleased that New Years Eve was enjoyed ..the firework display courtesy of the Old Rectory, viewed from the Church , must have been quite a treat ..
See you again one day maybe..

Thank you both for returning to St.Mary's and to choose us at Christmas time ...
a very peaceful time at Talyllyn ..the chill of winter doesn't spoil the beauty of our valley..and indeed I think the walks are to be enjoyed even more with the knowledge of a return to the warmth of the Old Church and a promise of a welcome cuppa...
I will look forward to seeing you again.. and here's wishing you a Very Happy New Year..

“Peaceful retreat”

A friend recommended st marys to me, so based on that my daughter and I with our three small dogs went along. What an absolute piece of history this building is. Peter has done a fantastic renovation totally modern yet keeping the chapel intact. it's breathtakingly beautiful as you look over the mezzanine bedroom looking down onto the chapel. everything you need for a comfortable stay is provided. the Eco loo proved no problem whatsoever. Peter was there to welcome us and explain everything. the beds are very comfortable and the ensuite shower room is lovely. it was a pleasure walking around the grounds and the view of the lake from the top of the land is amazing. we also took time to read the history of the chapel and the tales of some of the people buried there. I felt like it was an honour to stay inside such an historical building and to put on some of Peters old LPs of classical music inside the chapel just was the icing on the cake. If you are looking for a 'different' type of rental then look no further than this lovely chapel. My only regret was that there was no secure part to let my dogs roam outside freely. one of my dogs is a little adventurous and the first thing she did was leap over the graveyard wall onto the main road which kind of left me a bit nervous ensuring they were leaded up at all times. As it was not summer months this was not a problem but I dare say would of been if weather was lovely outside and we wanted the doors open. this has no reflection on our stay though but just to mention it if anyone else has little dogs that like to jump, as parts of walls are very low but with a high drop down to the main road.

Hello Both ...thanks for your kind review ...so glad that St.Mary's was upto your expectations ...
I was concerned that one of your dogs took that leap of faith over the perimeter wall ,indeed it is quite a drop on the other side ....perhaps it was bath night and he took off like a bullet ..!!
but seriously I will inform others in future about this issue ..
Thanks again for visiting us .

“Beautiful church, beautiful location”
Reviewed 28 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We had an amazing week at St Mary's, the location is stunning and the church itself is breathtaking. My partner and I both agree that this is definitely the nicest place we have ever stayed, it left a huge impression on him in particular. The accommodation is comfortable and clean, everything you need whilst on holiday and more. And don't be put off by the eco loo, it's ever so simple to use. Plus it's a small sacrifice for everything else that you get from staying here. The location is fantastic too, we visited the coast on the talyllyn railway, walked many routes around coed y brenin forest and fished reservoirs and rivers for trout and grayling. All of this within 30 mins. Our dog Karla also enjoyed her walks up in the woods and around the lake every morning. We would stay here again without hesitation and will also be recommending the place to both family and friends. Thank you Peter for a brilliant holiday. P.s. hope you enjoyed your trout! :)

Hello Both ,
I'm so proud to have received such a glowing review .
St.Mary's certainly stirs the senses ...a real time capsule .
Outside it only gets better ...I see you packed a lot in to your week's holiday ...perhaps leaving that walk to the summit of Cader Idris for the next visit .
It was a pleasure to have met you both ... and as for the trout you left for me ..it was delicious...thanks so much.

We have just arrived back from a weeks stay at st Mary's chapel and was completely blown away !! Yes it is a real church and you stay in it , the setting and surroundings are jaw drooping . We fished the lake we walked in woodlands with our dog and went to three beaches which are not far ,they were amazing .we did have great weather and that does help
The local spar about three miles a way does local meat and wins awards !!!
We ate out once on a Sunday at the rectory on the lake which was very good ,but the rest of the time we ate in ,after long days out or chilling at st Mary's
The Ecco loo works and we think peter has done a fantastic job on the church the locals must be proud and pleased at the business it will bring to them .
All in all one of our best holidays in this country thanks peter again
