Superb location, wonderful food and accommodation, hosts Sara and Carl very welcoming and helpful as my husband has Coeliacs disease ...gluten free food always available. This was our second visit ....for our honeymoon ...and we would recommend this guest house to all. Will definitely be returning.....our first visit was in the winter and the log fire in the sitting room was especially welcoming. 10 out of 10.

Room Tip: Carroll has wonderful views over the countryside from the patio doors but stayed previously in Awdry...

We were thrilled when you booked for a 2nd visit and so honoured that you chose us for your honeymoon!
No matter how many great reviews we get nothing tells us we are getting it right so well as returning guests so thank you so much!
I hope you are enjoying married life and hope to see you again - perhaps for your 1st anniversary??
All the best

We stayed here a few years ago and just had to go back. Sara and Carl are fantastic hosts. We had the carrol room with its double doors and view of cadir. The breakfast, evening meals and packed lunch were stunning. This is how every break should be.

"How every break should be" Thank you so much for that review! I used to own a bookshop and my tag line was "Everything a bookshop should be." I'm thinking of re using that for the B&B but we feel we still have a few things to do before we feel it's totally perfect but I'm so glad that that is the feeling you have taken away with you.
We really appreciate your review and hope we'll see you again soon.
Many thanks

We have just had an lovely couple of days at this little hideaway in Wales. Home made Welsh cakes and cookies in the bedroom. gin and tonic served in the garden , a superb dinner cooked by Sara and excellent, cooked to order breakfasts !!
Very quick confirmation back from Carl and, as we were dining, a quick check for any possible food dislikes.
A good wine list to compliment the dinner and absolutely no rush over anything.
We were in the 'Awdry' room which, although on the front , we were not disturbed by any traffic; in fact, slept with the window wide open.
Real 'get away from it all' bliss.........a shame it could only be two nights.

Thank you for taking the time to review us, it's very much appreciated. We really like the title of your review as that is exactly how we want people to feel when they stay with us.
It was an absolute pleasure to meet you, although serving dinner to a chef was a very nerve wracking experience for me! SO relieved that you enjoyed all the food.
Please do come back again soon.
Many thanks

The reviews for this little gem of a B&B really say it all. We arrived after a long day of walking on a rather warm day, tired and dishevelled. Sara didn't bat any eyelid, but showed us to our room, and left us to sort ourselves out before dinner. The warm Welsh cakes were delicious, and tea, ground coffee with cafetiere was also provided together with fresh milk. We rather regretted lingering over these delights and not spending more time in the excellent shower - definitely one to luxuriate in! Dinner was great - home-made roasted tomato soup, salmon with Mexican salsa, and the option of key lime pie for pud. And a good choice of wine/beers. Breakfast was also excellent, with a good choice of fresh fruits, homemade brioche and a number of cooked options in additional to the usual full English. We were rather sorry to leave, but Cadair Idris called, and we set off revived and ready for the next day's walking.

I stayed on the weekend of the 13th/14th June and had a wonderful time, and was very lucky to experience a mini heat wave !!The hosts are very welcoming, friendly and attentive. The attention to detail along with the personal touches are a rarity these days. The Blyton room was very comfortable, clean and modern. The freshly made cookies in the room were a lovely surprise too :-). The evening meals were superb, high quality ingredients and expertly made by Sara. The surrounding area is beautiful, and a great way to experience the welsh countryside. We visited the nearby coast , went to Portmeirion and also went white water rafting at nearby Bala (highly recommended !!). I will definitely be visiting again, thank you :-)

My husband and I recently stayed here for a bank holiday getaway. We booked it last minute by internet. Within hours of booking, the owner of the b&b emailed us thanking us for booking and did we have any special requests before arriving, and did we want to book an evening meal ready for arrival. On arrival, we were greeted by the owner at the car who called us by our names. Our room was lovely, contemporary deco cream carpet, wooden furniture, ensuite with a power shower, and a tv. I liked the little exras, condiment basket with a fab selection of teas, coffees, squash, etc kettle, cups n saucers, a jar of cookies, fresh bottled water, flowers, bowl of mints, box of hankies, bathrobes. A lovely big bed with egyptian cotton sheets neatly displayed. On arrival also, the owner brought us fresh warm welsh cakes, nice gesture. The location is breathtaking at the foot of cader idris mountain and a big lake. Brakfast was outstanding, a massive selection crom cereals, fresh fruit, youghurts, full english, pancakes, etc. I was blown away by the exceptional customer service, frienly atmosphere and little extras. Perfect for a romantic getaway or just a countryside break.

Dolffanog Fach B&B UK Wales, Tal-y-Llyn
We stayed 3 nights in this B&B: 2 rooms with 4 people. The B&B is located in a beautiful scenic area on the eastern shore of Llyn Mwyngil near Tal-y-llyn, at the foot of Cadair Idris. The location is a real topper: an ideal base to explore the region.
The B&B has spacious rooms with en-suite bathrooms. In the room: the facilities as you would expect in the higher class B&B. Good beds with very good down blankets, 2 individual relaxing chairs, coffee, tea, snacks, liquid luxury soaps, skin care, hairdryer, good towels, ...
There is a spacious cozy room to spend the hours in bad weather and a basic offer board games just like novels and informative books available.
The breakfast is extremely superb, next to the standard English breakfast also catered: other very tasty alternatives such as baked eggs with smoked salmon, super fresh fruit salad, delicious muffins, etc ...
We took 3 evening’s dinner from three courses. Here, too, we were amazed at the delicious starters, main courses and desserts.
And we must say: a super yummy tartlet with raspberries. They deserve a Michelin star for the tartlet.
The owners started in September 2013 and are particularly friendly and welcoming. Sara and Carl do it very well as managers of the B&B.
If they do so on and continue to grow, then we can speak of a top B&B for this region. Thanks for the reception and the stay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Simon and Liz would love to welcome you to Dolffanog Fach. Our aim is to provide the warm and friendly welcome of a traditional B&B with the standards and special touches you would expect from a boutique hotel. Unlike most B&Bs we do not "live in", we have a little cottage just next door so you don't need to feel as though you are staying in someone's home. We have 4 lovely double bedrooms, a sitting room with a log fire and a beautiful dining room with a slate floor and wood burning stove. Our dining room is big enough to accommodate individual tables for each guests but small enough to be cosy and allow you to chat to other guests if you wish. We have a large garden that you are welcome to explore - including a full vegetable garden! We also have a Finnish Sauna which is just perfect after a long day's hike or cycle in our astonishingly beautiful surroundings. If you are a walker or mountain biker then we can offer you our "Boots & Bikes" Room. Secure storage for your bikes, boots, helmets and clothes and we can also offer laundry facilities. Our breakfasts are designed to really set you up for the day and also offer plenty of variety if you are staying for more than a few days. You could stay for a week and have a different breakfast every day! We really want to offer our guests value for money and put a lot of effort into the little things, the biscuits in the rooms are homemade and freshly baked, the milk is fresh and the coffee is ground and there are lots of other little touches that guests always comment on and say how much they make a difference. Children of any age are more than welcome and we also welcome dogs and they are allowed in the rooms and sitting room, we don't permit them in the dining room but you are welcome to leave them in the bedrooms while you eat. We hope you'll come and stay with us, we can promise you a friendly welcome, lovely rooms, delicious food, glorious surroundings and a truly relaxing stay. ... more   less
