“Perfect?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 August 2011

Perhaps the perfect hotel for a long weekend away. Faultless service, relaxed atmosphere and fantastic food. The Spa is amazing and the staff couldn't be more helpful (but not in a false way like you get in many larger hotels). The only challenge is the high price but this is a great example of getting what you pay for...

We stayed three days, two in the premium suite, the Playroom, and one in the Coach House. Couldn't fault the staff, they seem genuinely interested in their guests and try very hard to serve them well. Food is uncomplicated and straightforward, fresh and well cooked with adequate choice and reasonable pricing for good portions. The wine list is sensible, too. Service fell over for our second night in the restaurant (not clear why), but room service was incredibly prompt and efficient. Super bar with direct access to the lawns, splendid cocktails and real ale, great for people watching.
The Playroom is huge, with a wonderful bed the size of the Ark Royal looking out over the beautiful landscape. It just doesn't come any better. Room fittings are a bit tired and we never did get the safe to work. The shower and toilet are built like vaults with huge heavy doors, we got a bit claustrophobic in them, but the room works well within the limitations of a Georgian house. The Playroom has aircon which could be welcome on a hot night.
The Coach House is also pretty good, but headroom in the bed area is limited for six footers and the staircase needs care if you head down during the night. We also found dog hairs although dogs aren't supposed to be taken into these rooms. We did note noisy plumbing in the block. The rooms are very well equipped though - THREE TVs in the Coach House, iPod connectors, Bose radio/CD, DVD player, Sky satellite (but only free-to-air service, perhaps disappointing given the room rate). Tons of the house (Cowshed) bath products to use and lots of towels and stuff. Pretty hedonistic really. Yes, it's busy in the school hols but the kids and pets don't intrude and it's nice to be somewhere with a younger clientele for once. Go elsewhere if you want formality or hate the iPad.

Overall, a fine hotel, constrained a little by the Georgian structure but with great staff and services. It's probably time for some refurbishment in the main house, and it ain't cheap, but you will struggle to find better.

The Cowshed spa is first class; luxurious and well run, it really invokes a sense of well being, with competent, considerate staff and a pleasant faux-agricultural ambience.

Room Tip: Talk to the hotel about your expectations before booking - the rooms are varied.

i have wanted to visit Babington house for a long time and after we got married had the perfect excuss as part of our honeymoon and thankfull babington did not dissapoint.

the receptionist knew we had got married only a few days before so invited us in to the bar for a glass of champagne, small touches go along way!

the room was fantastic, we everything you need right there for you includding board games for a cosy night in.

we ate both nights the food was good and honest, this isnt a fine dining restaurant with petit portions of explosive flavours but more resembles the style of hotel du vin dining or a good gastro fully enjoyable, only down fall was the portion sizes were to large so i couldn'tsqueeze a pudding in :(.

the complimentary afternoon tea was a treat and again a very nice babington touch

you are made to feel special and are well looked after but not in a sufficating mannar and by no means is this property pompous, its very cool, relaxing and absolutly amaxing from start to finish

Thank you!

One word; heaven. Great food, fantastic staff and a dreamy place to spend a day or two. The food served in the restaurant is second to none, the outdoor spaces are lovely, day beds on sprawling lawns, complimentary cream tea every day. Perfect.
Lots of families, so kids and dogs abound during the summer holidays but all very well occupied and impeccably behaved. We'd visited with another couple while the kids were visiting the out-laws, and I'd normally prefer a 'kid-free' zone for such 'grown up' escapes, but on this occasion everyone was having a lovely time together.
Lovely Spa, great cocktails and did I mention, the BEST food ;)
Treat yourself soon.

We've been to Babington House before but this time splurged on one of the spa rooms with the big outdoor baths.

As we'd expected the room was fabulous and the patio area was great, bar from the fact that you were kind of on show - maybe a little more privacy would be good but then you wouldn't get the view.

Food was fabulous, though we'd forgotten just how easy it is to rack up a headache inducing bar bill, a couple of cocktails each and the best part of £50 has gone. And who wants to stop at two cocktails...

The spa treatments I've always found a little lacklustre but the indoor/outdoor swimming pool and steam room area is a treat.

Had the chance to stay here with friends for the weekend. The place was really packed and fairly loud but hey this is sister to Soho House. Had a great time and the staff were v friendly will be back.

Amazing place. Avoid school holidays though, unless you have high tolerance for yummy mummy clones unable to control their kids in the breakfast room.

Fab rooms. If you can get a walled garden room, they are superb.
