“Outstanding stay”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

We spent 4 nights in a main house first floor room. We had high expectataions and we are very picky but our expectataions and needs were met or exceeded on every occasion.

The room was by far the best we have stayed in in the UK. Very large with sofa, desk, 2 comfortable chairs and uge bathroom full of Cowshed products. Stunning views, TV, sky plus HD, bose, open fire with logs, fridge, tea/coffee etc. The bed was more comfrotable than at home.

We had all 4 evening meals in the bar and restaurant. Great service, food ambiance. We sent a couple of things back wihtout fuss and with full apologies and swift replacement to our request. Food/alcholo is very reasonably priced. Lovely complimentary afternoon tea/cakes.

We used the spa and had 2 treatments each. Great staff and excellent treatments.

Small but well equipped new gym, new indoor and outdoor pools.

All of the staff were fantastic, friendly and avilable and plenty of them. Nothing was a problem.

Overall the bill was very reasonable for the quality of the stay. A must if you want to get away and rest.

We were a party of 6 celebrating a 50th birthday party and this was the 4th time we have stayed at Babington House, the second time for the birthday boy and his wife but the first for the final couple and to see their reaction when they realise all the really lovely touches that Babington House has to offer, was magical.

We are lucky enough to have stayed in most types of room, with the exception of the playroom and they are all special in their own way. We particularly like the attic room with the separate bedroom and lounge and to be able to make up your own log fire, with no 'health and safety' hassle is great fun. The cinema is a lovely touch, showing pre release movies and when we stayed before Christmas, we saw 'Shame', but the less said about that the better!

Yes, it is expensive, but if you keep a close eye, there are late availability deals to be had, especially in the winter and we can't recommend Babington House enough.

Having stayed at Soho House New York and more recently the Soho Beach House in Miami we thought we would give Babington House in Somerset a whirl.

We booked a two night stay over the festive period and we can truly say we had the most magical of Christmases.

From the moment we arrived the staff were warm and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our car was parked and our bags and Christmas gifts were whisked to our room.

We had Bedroom 2 on the first floor which overlooked the grounds to the front of the mansion house and the Chapel. The room was wonderfully spacious with a huge bed and real fire place (sadly not cold enough to have lit) with lovely furnishings, lighting and decoration, we had our very own Christmas tree too! The bathroom and facilities too were well appointed and beautifully done and as usual there were all the Cowshed products and a wonderful array of other bathroom essentials.

We had lunch and dinner on Christmas Eve at which both meals we enjoyed beautiful fresh fish and seafood starters. We ate in the main dining room where the atmosphere was relaxed and intimate and the waiting staff were excellent!

Christmas day we had wonderful canapés and champagne before we were seated to lunch where we gorged ourselves on the excellent fare. The main restaurant was approached via the kitchens where we could see the chefs preparing the wonderful food we ate.

The grounds were lovely to stroll around and a few foot paths lead away from the house in to the surrounding countryside which is really picturesque. There was a well equipped gym and two pools (one indoor and one outdoor) and the Cowshed Spa which sadly we did not use on this visit.

In all we would say we had the most perfect of times and we will definitely be returning in 2012 to enjoy this wonderful Country House Hotel.

Thank you to Matt and all the staff for the warm and friendly ambiance you created during our stay.

Room Tip: Try to get a room on the first floor in the main house.

The prefect mix of relaxation, food and comfort. Babington House offers a fairly wide range of things to do including a gym, pool and spa. The most important feature if the sense of relaxation in-between fantastic food and massages!

We stayed in the impressive duplex rooms of the Coach House including a wide range Cowshed products, entertainment system (with Sky Digital film channels) and breathtaking surroundings.

We left eager to return.

Room Tip: The Coach House has a set of unique duplex rooms. All are fantastic I'm sure.

Effortlessly comfortable hotel. The vibe is relaxed but not at the expense of great service. All details to make your stay comfortable have been covered eg instant wifi, wellies by the door, sky tv, board games etc. We asked for Christmas music which they didn't have so they made us all a Christmas cocktail whilst they downloaded appropriate music from itunes. All the staff were delightful and the food superb. I was only there for one night for work but will definitely return for pleasure.

....it is a rare occurance to have literally nothing to do and Babington House provides a unique sanctuary in which to do just that...nothing! During a 2night break, we sampled the Cowshed spa (double mud/massage/facial package), if i were going to be critical
perhaps a little too much waiting around (or 'relaxation time') during the whole experience, but i guess that is the point; as by the end of the package i was more relaxed than i knew possible! The restaurant food in my opinion was amazing, and all things considered, fairly decent value. The swimming pool, sauna/steam is more than adequate, and a swim outside on a cold October evening is a pleasure that most people rarely get to experience. One of the steam pod was out of action when i visited, so i mentioned to the guy on the desk..his response was more grunt than coherent words...so that was a bit of a negative. Another negative; found a metal strip (from using a tin opener i think) in my breakfast but the staff dealt with it speedily/efficently and no harm done. My only real reason for giving 4 stars and not 5 is due to the price. Although i throughly enjoyed the experience, it just seems so hard to justify a price tab of GBP 370 per night. As other posts have mentioned, breakfast included in the room price would take the edge off a little, but the cost of food/drinks once there seemed pretty reasonable all things considered.

Highly recommended...if you can avoid looking at your bank account for a while...
