“Relaxing pub lunch”
Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

Daily specials ( using local produce) combined with relaxed and friendly atmosphere, makes for a winning combination. The added bonus is that it is also dog friendly! Recommend the fish pie, crammed with seafood and full of flavour.

“Plenty to eat at a reasonable price”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

Four of us had a lovely meal sitting in the upstairs dining room of this historic pub. The food was very good value and there was lots of it.
The young people who served us were very polite and the food came at a reasonable speed.
It's a local pub so plenty of atmosphere and you can always walk off any excess you have eaten by walking along the river Parret which runs beside the pub. The more adventurous can go up the 'mump' next door for a 360 degree view of the surrounding levels.
Don't have any worries about the flooding over the winter as this place was still accessible from the Glastonbury direction

“Wonderful Place”
Reviewed 20 June 2014

Called in The King Alfred after a day out in Somerset while on holiday. We received a lovely welcome from the staff behind the bar along with a cold pint of Carlsberg. Both our starters and main course were excellent and we noticed that the people next to us also had a wonderful meal.
We called in the next day (Wednesday) but they were fully booked.
We would never had known the troubles they had had with the flooding if we had not seen it one the news.
All in all, a great locals pub who make visitors very welcome.

“Great locals pub”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

No pretentions here, just a very good locals pub with honest good value food. I have been several times its always busy. The Landlord/Lady have got it just right. This place was in the midst of the 2014 flooded area in the Somerset Levels

“Proper pub ”
Reviewed 9 May 2014 via mobile

Excellent home cooked food at bargain prices... Tues - sat lunch for only £5! Quality you would pay twice the price for elsewhere .. Sunday lunch the best in area . Make sure you book to avoid disappointment . Also £5 meal available on Wednesday nights.. The food at the price is unbelievable!! A la carte menu available other evenings which is outstanding value & quality.. Handcut chips are amazing...
A proper country pub which is hard to find these days. Also dog & children friendly.
