After been recently stranded in floods nearby, we took refuge in the nearest hotel which happened to be the Castle of Comfort. All that we required was a warm bath and somewhere to sleep but we were met by the warmest of welcomes and every aspect of our overnight stay was excellent. We had 3 children with us and as we had not booked in advance, we were expecting to just 'make do' in whatever room they had available but this was to the case at all and we truly enjoyed our short stay. Aswell as a lovely tray of sandwiches brought to our room that night (which were devoured in seconds), we also had one of the loveliest breakfasts I have ever had! Lovely comfortable rooms with all the little extras that make you want to go again. Thank you guys - you turned an awful experience into a memorable stay.

I sourced this lovely hotel through laterooms , as I was working nearby , and it is in every way superior to the chain hotels that supposedly cater for the business traveller , for the same average price.
The quality of rooms, dining and service are detailed in other reviews and I agree entirely with their comments , this hotel deserves success so give them a try , I think you will be really pleased that you did .
I shall certainly return.

I stayed here in late January, after deciding to travel at the last minute for a business trip. I'd booked into a small single room button arrival, due to the hotel being quiet, I was moved to a superior room which was large, beautifully furnished, exceptionally clean and with lots of lovely extras, a decanter of sherry, good tea and coffee, a range of books etc, etc. The bathroom was spotless with both a bath and a walk on shower.

After a quick was and brush up, I went down and sat in the warm, comfortable lounge, where I chose from a varied menu. The scallops for starters were lovely, the steak for main was lovely quality and cooked to perfection. Plum crumble to die for and a very nice glass of wine in a spotless glass.

Slept like a log in the very comfy bed, then ate a gorgeous breakfast before leaving. Very reasonably priced, great hospitality and I would recommend this wonderful little hotel to anybody visiting the area. I will definitely be returning.

After a very long drive we decided to look for a room for the night and hopefully a meal. We were checked in to a wonderful room by a really friendly lady. After a quick freshen up we came down for our evening meal. We both had pigeon which was superb then local lamb which really was the best we have ever eaten. We then had dessert mine was plum crumble and my husband had crepe with local cream and a toffee sauce, it's great that you use local suppliers. The wine was excellent in fact we could not believe our good luck in finding the castle of comfort. We knew breakfast would be perfect and it was and yet another lovely member of staff. Outside was a swimming pool which on a warm day must be lovely.

Room Tip: Our room was a superior suite which had a roll top bath and door out into the garden .

We stumbled across the Castle today, having driven far too long in our hired motorhome. Tired and stressed, we were made to feel most welcome, even though it was clear we were only going to be stopping for coffee. As it happened, we had coffee, tea cakes and yummy jam in their gorgeous comfy lounge. A lovely place with great team running it... So only a short stop, but felt we had to write a review as they made us feel so welcome, and the food was fab :-)

We have just returned from a two night stay at the Castle of Comfort Country House and found the experience delightful. Twenty five years ago we spent a short honeymoon in the hotel and had not been back since. At very short notice we decided to celebrate our anniversary by revisiting and from the first telephone call to Julie to book, have been treated with the most wonderful friendliness by everyone. The décor of the lounge bar and dining room is bright and tasteful and the atmosphere is very relaxing. The service we received was excellent, everyone working there seemed to have a happy and courteous attitude, and we met other lovely guests who seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as we were! Our room was most comfortable, scrupulously clean with a lovely bed and an amazing bathroom, the temperature was just right too! The breakfast choice was wonderful and was beautifully cooked and presented, a great start to a day in the scenic Quantocks and Exmoor. Then to come back to a pre-dinner walk, taking in the wonderful views, followed by a bit of a relax in preparation for a most delicious meal.. bliss! The only problem was deciding what to choose! So, in our opinion, the Castle of Comfort, mine hosts and all the great staff, deserve their five stars and a big "thank you" from us for enabling us to have such a good time.
