“Good Honest Pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2014

This is what a country pub should be. Warm welcome for people and dogs (always a plus with me). We had a simple pub lunch and will go again soon. They have a garden with a wonderful view, next time we hope the weather will be suitable for lunch outside.

The owners gave us a real warm and friendly welcome and went out of their way to provide us with a lovely meal even though we turned up late. The food and ale was excellent, the room clean and cosy. The Inn is a bit out of the way but worth making the effort. We only stayed the one night but will be back. Even the locals were friendly with one family giving up the table they were sat at so we could sit and eat.

We live in Exmoor National Park and have frequented most of the pubs on Exmoor. The past few years we have visited the George Inn at Brompton Regis which is 4 miles from Dulverton where we live. The George Inn has been recently been sold and has new owners. We have visited The George on numerous occasions as the pub location is one of the most scenic places on Exmoor.

The times we have visited the owners are rarely to been seen and have very little interactions with the customers and are not seen behind the bar serving. They run the establishment to their convenience with little regards for their customers.

The George Inn has become like a motor way cafe that likes to take your money with no personal interaction with their customers.

My partner and I will be going else where in the future

We were staying in the local area for a week and visited the George Inn three times as the food was very good and the hospitality excellent. The menu covered all tastes and good local beer was available. A comfortable and cosy inn with very welcoming and obliging staff. It was refreshing to get good service with a smile and nothing was too much trouble. Would certainly recommend this hostelry even if you have to go out of your way to find it. The fact that it is very dog friendly was also a bonus for us.

We were doing a sailing regatta at Wimbleball lake and had two rooms between us.
The rooms were really impressive, clean and everything worked beatifully. We had a wholesome steak in the evening plus a lovely fresh breakfast in the morning. Nothing appeared too much trouble and we were made to feel most welcome. What a fantastic hideaway.
We would certainly be looking to book next year if we can get in.

Room Tip: All the rooms I saw were great, quiet and had lovely views.

I turned up on a hot summer Sunday evening, completely exhausted from an extremely long bike ride (hadn't quite anitcipated Exmoor's hilliness!) Russ and Lyn really went out of their way to make sure I was sorted.. stowing my bike in their skittle alley, and making me some food (even though I think the kitchen was officially closed) And letting me book in one of the rooms upstairs for the night, which was very comfortable. Very nice people, and cooked a cracking breakfast in the morning, just what I needed for my onward journey to Lynmouth (even more hilly...!) I highly recommended the George Inn!

This is what an Inn is all about, lovely food which was excellent value, very clean rooms, all looked comfortable and cosy and above all welcoming hosts. The George Inn is ideally placed for some superb walks and a fantastic base to explore the local area.
Well done Russ & Lynn!

Room Tip: any room as they all look comfortable :)
