“If eating at the restaurant you can take your car all the way”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

Stopped here for Tea and scones whilst visiting Tarr steps (which the garden overlooks)
It's not clear at the main car park as you approach Tarr steps that you can drive down the narrow lane to the farm where there is limited parking, as the sign says "Farm only" with no mention of the restaurant. Its worth knowing, if as we did, members of your party are daunted by the walk from the main car park to the steps.
Tea comes with 2 very large scones, so if you only want a light snack get one between the two of you and order an extra drink. Pork scratchings are served by the 1/2 pt which is amusing

“Cosy dining experience!”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

I've visited the Tarr Steps a number of times, and had tea and cakes here afterwards, but this was the first time for dinner. There is an excellent wine list, with their own recommendations and opinions included which really helped our selection of a very good value Rioja. Dinner was traditional Exmoor fare with duck, lamb etc on offer, all of which was of a very good quality and prepared in a haute cuisine style. The atmosphere is very cosy as is typical of Exmoor pubs, but this restaurant is also very modern in terms of excellent service and very low key friendly atmosphere. Can certainly recommend a visit here!

“Too late for puds!!”
Reviewed 8 April 2014

Willing to take an order for food but refused us desserts disappointing my young daughter. This is extremely bad practice. If you accept our order for a main course please have the decency to allow us to finish it.!!

“Wonderful Party Room”
Reviewed 10 March 2014

Our family of fourteen celebrated Grandad's 62nd birthday in the private party room with a delicious lunch. The service was excellent, and everyone enjoyed their food. Special praise was heaped on the smoked salmon starter and the roast beef main course. The room featured a very comfortable seating area by a sunny window and a beautifully-laid square dining table for the 14 of us. This was so much better than those long narrow tables which make chatting with everyone impossible.
