The Jhalmuri in Frome is a British Standard indian restaurant, as in “Where's the local indian?”. It has reasonably smart décor with nice lighting and the furnishings are OK. I like the black cloth serviettes. It's not cramped. The background music (non-Indian) is not intrusive. They have an unusual menu with items you don't see elsewhere. The food isn't outstanding, but it's OK. They serve both Cobra and Kingfisher on draft. At the end you'll get a bill that isn't unexpectedly expensive. Early evening, the take-away trade gets in the way of the restaurant customers and service slows down, but it's a pleasant enough place to wile away the time.
This restaurant makes no pretensions of being a high cuisine restaurant. It's a reasonable restaurant of a type that there are thousands in the UK, and it's OK for a “Let's just go out for indian tonight”, and it's better than the others in Frome in my opinion. The staff stand out in being quite friendly, not obsequious, and attentive enough.
