Description: Opened in 1993, the Italian restaurant, La Bisalta, named after the mountain range that dwarfs the hometown of the owner and chef Luigi Violino, is situated in the heart of Frome. Surrounded by mature trees, the setting of La Bisalta feels almost rural. Easily identifiable by its covered canvas entrance and ivy clad upper storey, this genuine Italian restaurant offers a wide range of classic dishes. All dishes are cooked to order with fresh local ingredients by chef Luigi, who together with his wife Susan, has justifiably earned a far reaching reputation for excellent food and friendly service.

This is the second time we've visited la bisalta. Again we were not disappointed. This time we went as a family.

Yes it is a little eccentric , but you are made very welcome and gives it it's charm. as it's a family run affair it is relaxed and although we were not seated until quite a bit after our booking time it was no problem as we had a drink in the small bar area. You just need to treat it as a whole evening, and not be to a timetable!

The food was as always very good.

OK it is not cheap but I would say it just about worth it. Though a meal for two with wine and three courses will not see much change out of £100.

The wine selection is excellent. With a very good range of Italian wines as you would expect.

It has a reputation of bejng one of the better restaurants in Frome and it is deserved, especially with the recent rapid decline in quality at the Archangel .

Go with an open mind , don't expect a bargain, and you will enjoy a great evening with good food and pleasant staff.

Just visited La Bisalta for the first time and was pleasantly surprised.
This is a family run restaurant with its own personality!!
The food was delicious, the starters were very good, my friend had the Antipasto Caldo and was sing its praises all night. Even a fairly simple dish of Asparagi alla Parmigiana was excellently executed.
We were well looked after, keep an eye open for the waiter, the son, a little eccentric but good value.
All in all a great time if a little expensive.
Would I return ..... Yes I would,,,,

Very sorry to say that this visit was a little disappointing. This was our 3rd visit, and we loved the restaurant from day one, but on Friday it seemed a little 'busy'. Too many couples were kept waiting in the compact bar area, and it was over an hour before we were seated in the restaurant. Chris enjoyed his meal, my starter was really fab, but the main course was disappointing, and we did not fancy a pudding afterwards. I have to say, the service was very friendly, we love Danny and will definitely be going back, but if this was a first visit, it would not have left a very good impression of a usually delightful restaurant.

La Bisalta is an amazing experience. Probably the best Italian experience outside of Italy! It is quirky beyond belief but in a way that captures hearts and minds. The food is spectacular and this is supported by incredibly good but unusual service. This is a family restaurant and has the hallmarks of hitting some of the accredited ‘go to’ restaurants that are legendary. The waiter who is the son of the owner was truly a class act. I absolutely recommend this as the only first class restaurant in Frome. I can’t wait to go back.

Oh dear! We've dined here before. We like the place, the somewhat quirky feel. It is what many others have said, it's like dining in someone's home (which presumably it is). There's nothing wrong with the decor, or the atmosphere; if you want bright and modern (and pizza), go somewhere else.

The food is undeniably good; and the prices aren't that out of line, given what you get. The wine list is magnificent!

But the service. No qualms about "the management"; nor (really) about the bar waiter(?) although flippancy is always a thing to be carefully judged, some can cope and others not. But the waitress who sniffed constantly whilst serving at the table and couldn't tell the difference between broccoli and spinach (!); and the table waiter who certainly overstepped the bounds of familarity and left all of us in fear of his serving skills (would the vegetables end up on the plate or in our laps?) detracted quite a lot from the overall impression. Maybe it was just a bad evening (30/11/2013) and nothing some intensive training can't cure. But it is certainly needed on the evidence of our visit! Will we go back? Yes, probably, but a repetition of this visit would spell curtains!
