“A hidden gem”
Reviewed 15 February 2013

I knew the Grange before and knew it was perfect for a summer's day, with its beautiful location and al fresco tables, but as I've now discovered the restaurant inside has wonderful ambience and warmth and is fantastic for supper on a winters night. We visited on Valentines night when the special menu, which looked lovely, was clearly being enjoyed all around us but as I particularly wanted the scallops we stayed with the main menu. We also both chose the sea-bass and were even tempted to a pudding too, they looked so beautifully presented. Everything was delicious and I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone for a very special night out. We really enjoyed our visit, from the welcome on arrival to the heart-shaped balloon as a gift to take home... though service was a bit random: three people involved, two of whom were charming but one tardy and a bit unfocussed.

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed 27 January 2013

Went here on a wet and windy Friday night.
The staff meet us with great warmth and showed us to into a cosy room where we had drinks.
The main room is open plan and felt a bit like a conference center, the food was ok,but the staff are great and made the night

“Service needs to be sharper”
Reviewed 20 December 2012

We were a group of 25 eating at one large table. Drinks were served in an ante room. Orders had been placed days before.
On the minus side: There was no water on the table, the bread was only served on request with very little butter and after most of us had finished our starters. Two of our party were not served with their meals - Roast Pork and it was Sunday - until some of us had finished, the plates were cold and the food was only luke warm, the apple tart was a sweet mush and the mushroom tart was not a tart - just a medallion of rock hard pastry with mushrooms on top. The ice cream was just that. It didn't seem to have any sugar in it.
On the plus side:most of the food was good, there was no problem in providing an extra starter where one hadn't been ordered, the drinks came quickly, the coffee was delicious but only those with coffee were given a mini mince pie! The ante room was nice and best of all an excellent waitress.
The worst thing was the late meals and no-one apparently in charge s no apologies as far as I am aware. The restaurant did indeed look like a canteen. I wouldn't bother to go again. There are just better places.

“One of the very best restaurants in the Frome area”
Reviewed 7 December 2012

I am amazed that this excellent restaurant doesn't have more reviews. It is in a beautiful setting with terraced seating in the summer, the food is always excellent, they make use of local produce in imaginative ways. They even run their own cookery school. The wine list is top notch and, importantly to me, they always have a good range of single malts. And if pizza is more your thing they have a log fired oven. I can't recommend it highly enough.

“lunchtime - what a disappointment”
Reviewed 2 November 2012

The 'front of house' Ed was absolutely brilliant - very pleasant, couldn't do enough for us but the food did not live up to the menu. Draught lager was cloudy (replaced immediately with apols. by Ed), starter lacked the walnuts (again brought to table immediately), main courses of burger and spag. bol (simple for cooks starting out) was plain mince warm and grey lacking any onion, seasoning, tomatoes. Spaghetti was not home made pasta.

We'd employ Ed any time but the setting did not make up for the food. I took a massive 'doggie bag' back for the wild birds, foxes and badgers which visit our garden.. They ate it !!
