“Great stay”

Stayed here for one night on Thursday 10th November 2011, when on the Adam Ant tour. If you are planning on attending a gig at the Cheese and Grain, stay here. Reasonable prices, prime location, adequate room, friendly staff, good food, and nice ale (though expensive).Would stay again.

My single room, 203, was the worst hotel room I've stayed in for years. It was cold, the carpet was grubby,it had no bedside table, the ceiling paper was peeling, and there were damp patches on the walls.

Initially, the bathroom looked OK, but it too was bad. Of the three ceiling lights, one was hanging down (it shouldn't), the one above the shower didn't work, and the other was OK. The lamp above the mirror was missing. There was mould on the ceiling, and around the shower.

The common areas dirty, dusty, uncared for, and with lots of light bulbs missing.

However, not everything was bad: the bar served good beer, and the breakfast was pretty good.

Avoid this place like the plague!

This hotel is in a great location for a stay in Frome and the very secure parking is a bonus in a town centre. We were allocated a smoking room despite having booked non smoking but were moved straight away once the error was pointed out. The bed linens and towels were clean and fresh, the bathroom was clean and the shower was hot and easy to use. We ate in the hotel bar in the evening and the food was reasonably priced and of a very good standard. Breakfast was also very good and all the staff members we encountered were polite, friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately the whole hotel appears to be long overdue for decoration and refurbishment. The walls are dirty and the carpets threadbare in places, by no means shabby chic – just shabby. No aspect of our room décor and furnishings could be described as inviting. This is a shame as other aspects of the hotel are positive and this could be a great place to stay. We won’t be back until the decorations are improved.

We stayed in the family room and at £90 for the four of us it was very reasonable for the little time we spent in the room.

When we arrived we had to check in at the bar, but that was fine as we were all adults. Our room was at the top of several flights of stairs, so not ideal for anyone who is unfit or with limited mobility.

The room itself was clean, but tired. The wallpaper was ripped in places and it looked as if it needed decoration. The light fittings did not work, so we had to rely on a small table lamp and 2 bedside lights. The plug socket was very loose in the wall. Some of the carpet was frayed on the stairs and one of our party cut their foot on a protruding nail.

The room was a very good size, there were plenty of decent towels, 2 of the 3 beds in the room were comfortable and the shower was excellent. There was a good tea/coffee selection and lots more was provided on request within minutes. The staff were all friendly and very helpful.

The room smelled strongly of whatever was being cooked in the kitchens below, so chips in the evening and bacon first thing. The room was also uncomfortably hot, and as there were only duvets on the bed, it was difficult to sleep.

We were woken three times by other guests in the middle of the night, all of whom were in large drunken groups. This is an issue at the hotel, as there are no staff working 24 hours, so when groups of men were singing and jumping around loudly outside the room at 3am, there was no one to ask to deal with it - not a comforting thought for a group of women. If the hotel is going to take bookings from large male groups, then they should consider a night porter.

Breakfast in the morning was very good, with a nice selection of cooked food.

So, all in all, for the price this is fine for an overnight stay if you just need a base.

As a family group we had 4 rooms here - 1 double, 1 twin and 2 singles. The rooms were all of a decent size, comfortable and with all of the expected facilites. Breakfast was freshly cooked. The hotel also has its own car park - a bonus in the centre of Frome.

On the negative side, the decor was a bit tired and the dining room - as an adjunct to the bar - was not a particularly inspiring place to eat. There is no lift. The car park is around the corner from the hotel and, with limited headroom and a variety of concrete pillars, could present some challenging manoeuvers to owners of large cars if it is more than half full.

Overall, this is a 2 star hotel, so do not expect luxury. But it is clean and comfortable with a decent breakfast included in the price - and, at £45 for a single room and £60 for a double, in our view it represents good value.

Was on a business trip, got a twin bedroom for £70 a night.
Beds were OK, bedroom floor when walked on creaks. The noises generated after flushing the toilet and for the tank to refill again took just under a minute. Very disappointed with Wi Fi signal in room, literally no signal at all. The strongest signal you will get is in the breakfast room which does give very good speed. The wall power sockets are situated away from the beds, which causes inconvenience if you wish to charge your phone while having it beside your bed. The car park does need a bit of improvement and when I turn up there was no proper parking space due to a number of cars parking in between two spaces. Breakfast is not massive portion but of pretty good quality. Staffs are friendly.
Overall considering the price I paid I probably am expecting more.
