Description: Archangel is well known for its magnificent 3 storey restaurant built into an old hay barn adjacent to the main house. The ancient walls are simply whitewashed and embrace a free-floating glass mezzanine cube that seats up to twelve people around a single table. Our chef always uses the best quality and locally sourced ingredients. Our seasonal menus are unpretentious and aim to serve every dining experience. We are open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

“Still great but hope its not slipping”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

This is only the second time we've eaten in he archangel, the first more than a year ago. Then it was absolutely superb, and i would have had to say one of the best meals I've eaten. This time the food was still really good, and the service friendly, but maybe just lacking a little bit of care. The music seemed noisier than previously almost to a level of distraction over the meal. Take care guys, don't let something fantastic become something ordinary.

“Poor quality & over priced breakfast”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

We visited the Archangel for brunch today and were very disappointed overall. Breakfast was being advertised as served until 11am but on arrival, 20 minutes before that, the waitress had to check if it was still a possibility. With hind sight we should have left then. Three of us ordered bacon/sausage sandwiches which arrived on very poor quality sliced bread. The other member of our group ordered smoked salmon with scrambled eggs which looked really unappetising just a blob of each on a large plate without any garnish. After questioning if that was all she was getting for £10.95 some under cooked toast arrived about 10 minutes later. The waitress was aware we were unhappy and at no point did a senior member of staff arrive to speak to us. Will certainly not be returning as there are a number of much better places to eat in Frome most of which offer considerably better value, quality & service .

“Tasty food, good service but lacked attention to detail”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We ate in the restaurant at the Archangel last night, our first time. It was Saturday night and the atmosphere reflected this-lively pop music from the bar was piped into the downstairs restaurant which you either love or hate.
It's hard to tell where to go when you walk in as there is no-one to greet you but eventually a member of staff noticed our confused faces and showed us to our seats. My husband immediately polished is cutlery (cringe) as he said it was dirty.
Our waiter, Josh, appeared and seemed rushed off his feet. He was friendly and very courteous but had to apologise that the dish my husband wanted had sold out ten minutes ago. He also explained there would be a half hour wait for the starters. When mine arrived it lacked the pickled beet root described on the menu-later my husband's lamb was served with beet root so they must have had some. I only ordered the starter for the beet root!
The food is tasty but the presentation is a little at odds with the style of the place which you would expect to serve classic, tasty fare presented simply-this chef favours the nouveau cuisine presentation of small morsels and multi-coloured purées and mousses. It tasted and looked good apart from my two new potatoes, shaped like mushrooms and only just cooked-presumably the harder texture enabled them stand upright. A different woman brought my food served on a large slate and was quite abrupt in asking me to move my knife so she could set it down. She seemed to be followed round by a young boy who tried to give another table our food-bit confused about the serving system. They all looked very hot and bothered.
My husband loved his food, I thought mine was good albeit a bit cold when it arrived. The house white was nice and light. I think they tried their best, it wasn't a disaster but neither was it super-smooth.

“Excellent Sunday Lunch!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

My Daughter and I went to the Archangel for a girlie treat one Sunday. We hadn't booked and it was pretty busy, as the Frome Festival was on. Despite this, the service was great and the food really delicious (We both had the roast beef). We will definitely be back!

“Great cocktails, shame about the service”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Having visited the archangel regularly over the last few years to meet up with old friends in the area, both for food and drinks, I was looking forward to another get together there during the summer holidays. Unfortunately the experience wasn't a good one and we'll be going elsewhere next time. We met for drinks at 9pm on a rainy Tuesday evening so the bar wasn't busy, there seemed to be some staff training going on. Despite this our cocktails were delicious, however we were told that the main mixologist was upstairs hosting a cocktail evening which we were welcome to join if we 'had a spare £50 in our pocket'! We declined and settled in for a couple of hours catching up. Unfortunately our evening was rudely interrupted when at 1015 we tried to buy a 2nd drink and were told that time had been called already. They had apparently called last orders but we hadn't heard either call from our alcove, and were not exactly listening out for it given the time! To close the bar so early with no warning to the few clientele who were there seems unprofessional and brought an annoyingly abrupt end to what should have been a lovely evening.
