The Lighthouse sits in 30 acres with beautiful views. It has a lake, heated outdoor and newly completed indoor swimming pools. On arrival you are welcomed by an attentive and friendly team. Meals are served in the light-filled cafe with views of the beautiful grounds. Food lovingly and freshly prepared is gluten and dairy free. If this is a first for you prepare to be inspired. Try their famous homemade soups, (pea, basil and spinach is a must), special Thai curries, salads and savoury snacks. They will also prepare pre-ordered packed lunches for picnics or your onward journey. The lighthouse is known for its selection of speciality herbal tea mixes, another delight. It has facilities for campers and those who like to fish. A perfect retreat destination.

The Lighthouse is situated in 30 acres if the most beautiful countryside the United Kingdom has to offer. It is a beautifully renovated set of farm buildings that lend it a most individual sense of serenity and quality. This sense pervades as one arrives and is welcomed- the whole establishment is well-maintaned and clean.

It did strike me as a little odd that there were 'healing symbols' on the walls as we arrived, but never mind; each to their own, right? Wrong. What started out as quirky oddities soon became claustrophobic reminders that this is not 'just a B&B' as the staff later suggested, but in fact a business run in support of the decidedly dubious 'Universal Medicine' organisation. Their literature is everywhere, and as if you can't get blatant enough, there is an enormous version of one of their symbols **on your pillowcase**. This would be absolutely fine, *if* they let you know that this was the case on their website (they don't), and if they didn't take the slightly absurd stance that they are 'simply a B&B', and nothing to do with 'Universal Medicine', which is should be clear to anyone but an utter loon that they are!

A quick flick round the internet left us in no doubt that we wanted nothing to do with Universal Medicine, and by association, The Lighthouse. To be fair, my additional night's stay which we no longer wanted was refunded without quibble, but so it should have been.

Let's be clear: I don't care what your beliefs are; believe what you like; but if your business is tied to a religious movement (though that was protested- this is my opinion), you should be clear about that. To not be honest, albeit by omission, leaves customers feeling duped. Avoid.

The Lighthouse Management wish to respond to the ‘very odd’ review written on the 10th August 2012.

The Lighthouse offers accommodation to a wide variety of customers. The emphasis of the business is in providing a beautiful and tranquil environment, a loving but unimposing high quality of care from the staff, and the support of healthy nutritious food from our teahouse, so that guests feel they can unwind and rejuvenate. If they should choose so, relaxing treatments are also available on request. Often guests simply use the Lighthouse as a base to explore the area, or if they are passing through on business, so they do not always have the chance to take time and enjoy the surroundings and the service fully.

We cannot state more clearly that we are nothing to do with ‘religion’. Universal Medicine is a client of ours who makes use of the conference facilities on the premises and with whom we have had a wonderful working relationship for many years. We make use of their healing symbols as we have found them very helpful, and offer them in the bedrooms as an additional support for our guests to have a good night’s sleep. This is no more ‘odd’ than having bibles in the top bedside table drawers in hotels across the world. If this is not desirable to the customer, we completely respect their wishes. Our website depicts clearly that we have a ‘slant’ towards health and well-being, as many other places do.

If the customer was spoken to about ‘beliefs’ of any kind by our staff in a imposing manner, or treated other than with the utmost care and respect, we would like to hear about it. It is very disappointing for us to receive such a strong negative review – if you look at the other reviews on Tripadvisor you will see how seriously we take our job in ensuring that our guests feel very at home and well looked after. If he would like to discuss his concerns further, we would welcome the opportunity to talk things through.

And lastly, we would like to appeal to the customer to take the responsibility in writing reviews on websites such as Tripadvisor very seriously, as one person’s reaction can have a very damming affect on a business.

I am not into swanky and meticulous....home is where the heart is and The Lighthouse is a haven of peace and timelessness... calm and quiet even with my two girls... the accommodation simple, clean and neat... we felt 'loved' but not at all smothered.

if you are looking to escape from the rat race this is ideal for families and couples alike - it is a small and sweet guest house with lovely staff who leave you to get on with your day... no fuss but plenty of warmth ...

my girls enjoyed every minute - dining out in the garden not far from the lake in the summer evening with the girls playing...

Cooked breakfast and healthy choices - totally guilt free and delicious.
i cannot recommend this place enough - we will return.

Room Tip: if you are going as a family with young children ask for the family suite inside the main part of th...

We booked two rooms for a short break last weekend. The hotel is very nice and rooms are clean, however, one room with 4 beds is next to the kitchen so it's a little noisy and smells of cooking. We asked the staff for to change the room and they arranged 2 double rooms (away from the kitchen) for us. The place is clean, beautiful and quiet but be aware they offer only healthy and natural ingredients so don't expect to find dairy milk on their menu. You could either choose coconut or soya milk. The place would benefit from a small library and a games room. Slightly pricey.

Stumbled across this on a google search. The Lighthouse is a retreat for relaxation and massage. We were only looking for B&B accommodation but found a lot more than this.

Booking was easy via their website and when i contacted them to pay the remaining balance, i was given a discount as we had booked a family room (this was all that was available) but there were only myself and husband going. On arrival the site looks perfect. The main building and stable rooms are situated around a courtyard and fountain. Clean, comfortable and well looked after. We were pleasantly surprised. The rooms are made from converted stables and we were in room 6, which had a double and a single bed in it. Sheets perfect white, bed a bit hard for me but each to their own taste. The bathroom was a modern wet room and the complimentary toiletries were a good standard. There were incense sticks to burn and a lighter to light them with. An average size room, nothing to grand. The only downside to the room is the lack of natural light, but obviously going out to explore in the day time, ment this wasnt really a problem.
"Love in a cup" is the attached cafe which serves breakfast and is also open to the public. This is a little gem to find!. Specialising in gluten and dairy free food, my husband was in heaven as he has an intolerance to both of these. Saying that, please do not let this put you off staying here. I ate the food here and i must confess was very happy with the standard and taste. Breakfast consists of fruit, cereals, nuts juices, toast, crispbread, eggs, mackerel, sausages, yogurt and they are happy to change things to suit your taste. We bought some gluten free cocounut and blueberry muffins as a treat from the cafe. In my experience these are usually difficult to bake being gluten free, but they were just divine. Prices to eat there are very reasonable for the Bath area. Lamb chilli with nachos costing £6.99 was very tasty.
All staff were extremely friendly and we found ourselves being drawn into peoples conversations. We felt like we had been here many times before.
Only being in Somerset for 2 nights we were unable to make use of the massage facilities ect. We are definitely looking to go back at some point and will almost certainly make use of these services.
We came away with a renewed sense of health and well being as this place just makes you want to make the most of your body and life.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 6 which was a decent size. Also had a fire escape back door which has a window in...

Have just had the pleasure of staying 2 nights here and oh what a feeling of love and gentleness. The attention and care shown by all the staff was exceptional and the meals experienced at there little cafe "Love in a Cup" during my stay were pure delight. The view of the lake is beautiful and a walk around it is highly recommended. A stay here is a must and highly recommended for every one as we are all deserving of some self love and self nurturing.

We stayed for two nights at The Lighthouse, the rooms are situated in the stable block so each room is a stable conversion and thus a bit on the small side. As well as being small the room didn't have much natural light, just a skylight (that was very noisy to open) and some glass by the front door so this made the room feel a bit claustrophobic but if you're not going to spend any length of time inside then shouldn't be a problem. Also the heating is underfloor heating which can take a while to warm up, when we arrived it was quite chilly so it would have been nice if the heating had been turned on earlier so the room was already warm. Room facilities were okay tea/coffee tv but ladies you'll need to bring a hairdryer!! As other people have mentioned the food is all gluten/dairy free but I had the mackerel and eggs for breakfast and must confess it was lovely...
The staff are very friendly and welcoming and are available 24/7 if you need anything and their is a nice pub opposite which does great evening meals but be sure to book a table.
We normally stay with family when in this part of the country but due to "overcrowding" we booked into the lighthouse and found it quite adequate.
