“Do not stay if you want to sleep... Disappointing”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 April 2014

The Archangel has such potential but we were really disappointed with our stay. We stayed in one of the courtyard rooms. The room was lovely, clean and had everything we needed, although it was freezing and we couldn't make the radiator work. Not sure about the other courtyard rooms but we were in room 8 and it obviously has no sound insulation what so ever. We were lucky that the man staying in the next room was on his own and was really quiet but even so, we could everything he did, every sigh and every move he made - he may as well have been in our room with us
Then at 6.30am an Iceland delivery came for the store next door and was wheeling trolleys around for the next two hours. All in all, not a good stay and I will not be staying there again.

Room Tip: I would say choose one of the rooms above the pub, but looking at other reviews, sounds like these a...

We have just spent a lovely few days at The Archangel as a treat for my birthday. From the moment we arrived the staff were just fantastic, they made us feel extremely welcome and couldn't have done more to make our stay very special.
The room was fantastic with the bath in the room! The was so quiet, perfect for unwinding and having some much needed rest.
We chilled out downstairs having a glass of wine (or two!) reading the papers, the atmosphere was relaxed. The staff were always there if you needed them.
We ate in the restaurant on the first night and had a fantastic meal, again the service was very attentive.
If you need to drop out of life for a few days in a lovely hotel, with great staff and perfect food then look no further than The Archangel.
One point of caution......if you are planning to stay over a Monday just be aware that Frome's wonderful, independent shops virtually all close! There was very little open on a Monday but all re-opened on a Tuesday!

I rarely, if ever, write reviews but, on this occasion, I feel compelled to do so as this hotel was so good. I have been in Frome on business and have found the Archangel to be friendly, clean, the rooms are amazing (bed v comfy), the staff are really helpful and, importantly on business (and a rarity in Somerset) the wifi in rooms very strong.

they have just launched a new menu and, it has to be said, the food is exceptionally good and I would recommend it to anyone.

I also have to say that I found the price of the room very reasonable!

Quirky rooms that were clean and comfortable. We stayed for one night in the small luxury double room. It was quite and the furthest away from the bar/restaurant. The bed was comfy albeit for a rough feeling matress cover. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside of our stay was the awful choice of food in the restaurant. I really wish I had looked at the menu before I booked a table. Starters were fine but the choice of mains were terrible. One veggie option, fish and chips, 2 different burgers, overpriced steak or venison and salmon. This is hardly a la carte! I ordered the veggie option...Pan Fried Gnocchi. It arrived burnt and tasteless (burnt sides face down. Perhaps they thought I wouldn't notice! ) The chef said that it is "caramalised"! Caramelised should be golden brown, not burnt to a
cinder! My husband decided on the chicken burger which tasted liked smokey bacon flavoured crisps. Nice hotel but get a new menu/chef!

Myself, partner and friend all stayed at The Archangel last weekend and we loved the whole experience. Our rooms were comfortable and clean, little extras like fresh coffee and milk and drinks in the fridge were appreciated.

The staff were amazing, youthful and capable, nothing was too much trouble.

Breakfast was delicious and value for money.

We would definitley stay there again.

After consulting Conde Nast reviews, these reviews and the hotel website what was supposed to be a fantastic surprise big birthday weekend away became an OK stay. There was no one big issue just too many smallish ones that took what was purported to be a quirky luxury boutique hotel into the mediocre category. Whether it be the lack of sound insulation, the terribly stained stair carpet, the out of place tiny in-room tv, sparkling wine instead of champagne, stained carpet and furniture in room 5 and a strong disinfectant smell it made me question the value for money.

It was a real shame as it has the potential to be very special as the staff were very helpful, the food was excellent and the bar had a great atmosphere

Despite terrible weather and The Frome Monthly Independent Market being on (it takes over the whole of the centre of Frome) Nicole and the staff at the Archangel organised a perfect 50th Birthday Party for my husband. With the market the Hotel was very busy with lots of other customers but our party went perfectly, everything was organised beautifully, the buffet food was excellent and more than enough for our guests, the house wine was extremely drinkable, so much so that I had to take what was left home with me just to taste again. The Naval Room and Library were ideal for what we wanted with a choice between tables and sofas and a lovely roaring fie in the library. I honestly couldn't recommend it highly enough and we are looking forward to returning very soon.

Room Tip: We weren't staying over but I've seen some of the rooms and they look super!
