We stayed at the Archangel on 19th April 2014. The room we had was in the Courtyard, ground floor, room 7. The rooms are nicely furnished. The room was very small but sufficient for our needs. The bathroom was small, the shower a good size, but the sink was not practical, although looked good. The bed was comfortable, although the scatter cushions could do with being cleaned. There was no fridge in the room so the drinks that were provided were not cool. The jars that were used for storing tea and sugar could do with being cleaned, so they looks like they have been refilled with fresh tea and sugar. There was virtually no soundproofing between us and the next room, we could hear our neighbour snoring during the night, and unfortunately their very unusual way of waking each other up by singing "Ding Dog The Witch Is Dead". The room above us was very much larger and had a fridge.
The owners are very friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was good.
I would say that this was good value for money, We would stay again but would either choose a room within the main hotel or request room 9.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the upper floor.

I booked this hotel whilst planning a trip to Longleat, and from those in the area the online pictures for Archangel looked stunning. The hotel is even better in reality, and I'm so pleased we chose to stay here.

The character of the old building has been balanced perfectly with modern touches and the standard double rooms which are a new addition leading of the lovely courtyard were beautiful. We instantly felt at home in our room and were warmly welcomed to the hotel by the staff, who made sure we got parked up round the back in their additional parking area.

As there was a large function booked into the restaurant on the night we were staying, I received a phone call the day before to ask if we needed a restaurant booking, which was thoughtful and we accepted. We had considered going out into Frome to eat but decided the restaurant menu sounded too good to miss. We had the beignets to share to begin, starters and a main, forgoing dessert as we couldn't narrow down our savoury choices! Felt very greedy but everything was delicious and we were well looked after. The atmosphere of the restaurant was nice in that it is set on a mezzanine above the bar, so that you are not cut off from the chatter of people enjoying themselves below but slightly removed so it is not overbearing. The decor throughout the hotel is beautiful.

The room was lovely, the bed cosy and comfortable and unlike other reviewers we had no trouble with any outside noise. Hotel was perfectly located for our needs and we only strayed out for a couple of drinks in Frome before our meal in the evening.

Breakfast was included in the stay and again there was a warm welcome before we were shown to a sunny breakfast room, which soon filled up. Great standard of food again and there was no rush as we approached check out time at 11am. The place has the feel of a family run business as the staff are genuinely helpful and friendly.

Would definitely stay here again if in this part of the country, really pleased with everything and just couldn't find a fault if I tried.

What a place, we stayed for 2 nights in room 5 and it was perfect. Friendly helpful staff, well stocked back bar and great breakfast. The courtyard is a perfect sun trap for an afternoon drink but if you do fancy exploring The Archangel is situated in the centre of Frome close to many cafés, shops and restaurants.
The room it self was fantastic, huge bed, free standing tub and in built sound system, we will defiantly be back and would recommend to anyone in the area. Thank you

We stayed in room 3 on the 4th-6th April.
Check in was very easy and you collect a ticket for your car to park in the car park 1min away.
On arrival the staff were very friendly and helpful. Room 3 is a small luxury double and is the one with the Angel mural you see on their website.
The room is stunning, with a large freestanding bath, i pod docking station and small fridge.
Ok, one could be picky and say there were not enough hangers, a little dusty and no alcohol in the mini bar/fridge! but the 'wow' of the room far outweighed all of the little niggles.
We didn't eat here as we had tables booked elsewhere which is worth pointing out as we have read that the restaurant did not have particularly good reviews.
On our second night there was a private function which unfortunately was held in the room adjacent to our bedroom. The party along with loud music went on until the early hours. This didn't bother us at all but might bother some guests who are lighter sleepers.
The ambiance of the hotel is fantastic and the staff cannot do enough to help. The breakfast is A* as is the breakfast service. This cannot be faulted in any way.
There is a great choice and definitely something for everyone. The quality of the produce was extremely good.
The Archangel fuses the old with the new seamlessly. With small nooks to sit in, exposed brickwork and modern art adorning the walls it is a great little find and well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Room 3 is great for couples

I couldn't not review this hotel!

We had the most amazing stay here on 5th April. After a long day at Longleat Safari Park we couldn't wait to get to the hotel and relax. When we arrived we couldn't find anywhere to park so we called the hotel and the lady who answered told us where to park and that when we arrived she would give us a sticker for our car so that we didn't get get a parking ticket. Once in the hotel, we was amazed, what a beautiful place. We was quickly shown to our room and the lady who helped us (i can't remember her name unfortunately) was so helpful and chatty - she even helped me carry our bags up to the room while my partner put the sticker in the car. We stayed in room 9 in the courtyard and it was a lovely quirky room that come with an ensuite. The bed was so comfortable that we didn't want to leave it. I also liked that there was tea, coffee and fresh milk in the room. We went out for dinner but everywhere was fully booked so we came back to the hotel and asked about eating there. They was fully booked also but found us a table for an hours time which I thought was brilliant. We had a few drinks in the bar which was very nice and quite lively. Dinner was amazing, one of the best meals that we have had. We had the duck confit, ham hock and frois gras terrine to start and I had the sirloin steak and my parter had the lamb for mains. Both were beautifully cooked and the taste was beautiful. We was served by Josh who was brilliant, very polite, friendly and we couldn't fault him at all.

In the morning (sunday) we had breakfast - this was included in the price of our room. My partner had a full english and i had the eggs benedict. Again a beautiful meal with wonderful service from the lady that helped us when we checked in.

Checkout was just as friendly too.

We are already planning to stay here again very soon!!!

Thank you Archangel for our wonderful stay.

The Archangel has such potential but we were really disappointed with our stay. We stayed in one of the courtyard rooms. The room was lovely, clean and had everything we needed, although it was freezing and we couldn't make the radiator work. Not sure about the other courtyard rooms but we were in room 8 and it obviously has no sound insulation what so ever. We were lucky that the man staying in the next room was on his own and was really quiet but even so, we could everything he did, every sigh and every move he made - he may as well have been in our room with us
Then at 6.30am an Iceland delivery came for the store next door and was wheeling trolleys around for the next two hours. All in all, not a good stay and I will not be staying there again.

Room Tip: I would say choose one of the rooms above the pub, but looking at other reviews, sounds like these a...

We have just spent a lovely few days at The Archangel as a treat for my birthday. From the moment we arrived the staff were just fantastic, they made us feel extremely welcome and couldn't have done more to make our stay very special.
The room was fantastic with the bath in the room! The was so quiet, perfect for unwinding and having some much needed rest.
We chilled out downstairs having a glass of wine (or two!) reading the papers, the atmosphere was relaxed. The staff were always there if you needed them.
We ate in the restaurant on the first night and had a fantastic meal, again the service was very attentive.
If you need to drop out of life for a few days in a lovely hotel, with great staff and perfect food then look no further than The Archangel.
One point of caution......if you are planning to stay over a Monday just be aware that Frome's wonderful, independent shops virtually all close! There was very little open on a Monday but all re-opened on a Tuesday!
