We stayed here for a last-minute weekend getaway in the large attic room under the roof beams, which has its own bathroom next door and felt cosy and private.
It's a rural location, down a long non-metalled track and so is remarkably quiet at night. The view over fields from the room, with a calling owl and Sarah’s horse grazing below add to the atmosphere of calm.
The track to the house was an experience -- due to what I think were dozens of quail running ahead in front of the car. The track passes through trees and beside an old quarry. With no streetlights for miles around, you can see the whole night sky -- great place for a telescope!
The nearest restaurant on foot is two miles away, The George (beside 14th century Nunney Castle, which is well worth a visit), where the food was good but not outstanding. The walk includes a short stretch of main road without a footpath, so not ideal, but there are more restaurants a short drive away.
Broadgrove is a historic listed house and Sarah is a knowledgeable and charming hostess. Her delicious traditional breakfast is served at a large table beside the huge stone fireplace.
Perfect for peace and quiet and for exploring the many excellent National Trust houses and gardens locally.
