Not too far from the George at Nunney where we were staying, good food, if you do call in you MUST have one of their home made pies, excellent.

“Great place, excellent beer, average food, very slow service”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We have passed this place so many times and always meant to try it. We finally tried it on a Sunday evening in mid July.

The bar staff were really friendly and efficient and generally excellent. We chose a starter and main course and were really looking forward to it. We then waited nearly 40 minutes for the starter to arrive. The waitress who brought the food was pleasant enough but very shy and had no idea we had been waiting so long and so didn't apologise.

The portions were generous, slightly too generous actually, so that when the main course finally arrived, again a bit too slowly, we struggled to manage it all.

The food itself was very average. Salad was probably left over from lunch. It was all slightly too much 'out of a packet'. That might not have mattered if we hadn't been kept waiting so long in the first place. If it is 'out of a packet/freezer' then you expect fast service, if you have to wait 40 minutes, then you expect freshly cooked food.

The beer is excellent and kept really well and the place is lovely inside. The garden is big enough so that you are not on top of one another but it feels very enclosed.

Would we go back? Definitely for a drink inside the pub - and with a roaring fire in the winter packed with locals it would be lovely. For food? I doubt it. We so wanted to like the food but it was eating because we were hungry rather than for enjoyment sadly.

We paid just under £80 for four people for a starter each and a main course and one round of drinks.

Thank you for your feedback, we are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your visit. If you could email me the full details i.e the date and time you were here so I can investigate fully that would be great. There must be a reason for your delay on the starters.

I will look into the portion sizes too to ensure we are not being wasteful. In regards to the salad I can ensure you it could not of been left over from lunch as it has been far too hot in the kitchen to have lots pre prepared. In regards to having ' out of the packet/freezer food ' This is 100% un true. As it states on our web site and in the menu all our food is home cooked on site, this also is checked by EHO to ensure we are meeting trading standards and also to ensure our cooking processes meet current legislation.

As you can imagine some dishes we have to batch cook as making from scratch to order would be impossible from a timing point of view. I can ensure that all our food is made from scratch on site not pre bought ready meals.

I will happily feed you all again for free, as you can see from our other reviews it is not the norm to have such negative feedback.

Many Thanks
Graeme Barry

“Pleasantly surprised.”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

10 of us visited at Sunday lunchtime. Only 2 ended up going for the Sunday roast, most of the remainder going for one of their 'Postlebury' pies which were declared delicious. Plenty of veg and gravy were available and they provided gluten free gravy for the coeliac in our group.
Although they were feirly busy service was more than adequate.
Will definetly consider another visit in the near future.

“Good pub food.”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

Fairly quiet on the evening we were there, but we had some excellent food. Generous garlic bread, a good vegetarian lasagne, and a local pie "to die for"!! Enjoyed the local ales on tap. Would recommend strongly.
