“Amazing pie and chunky chips :)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

Me and my partner both had pie, beef and Stilton and Turkey and cranberry. Both very lovely. My young daughter had a child's meal and she had loads and thoroughly enjoyed it especially the chunky chips. Staying nearby at Longleat. Was well worth the drive

“Friendly welcome & good food”

Tucked away in a pretty village, it was a very friendly welcome on a rainy day. An extensive menu for a pub, all home prepared and cooked. Recommended.

“Tasty food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

Arrived to this beautifully traditional inn/pub very hungry after a long drive and ordered jacket potatoe with chilli and chicken mushroom fettuccini. The food was excellent, but we had to wait nearly an hour to get it. When you are hungry that wait is really toooo long.

“Pie High”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

Surprisisng, isn't it, that so few English pubs specialise in pies, just pies and pints? Odd that the farmer, butcher and the publican haven't got together on this. Steak and kidney and chicken and ham pies are common enough, but what about pork pies? I cannot remember every being offered a pork pie with my pint. Warm from the oven pork pies are surely a great delicacy. Like sausages they could be tweaked with different herbs. Then there are lamb pies, favoured in Scotland, rabbit and game pies, and veal ham and egg pies. For desert there are endless fuit pies.

In a lovely Somerset backwater The White Hart makes and serves five or six different meat pies
in a thin, light and crisp pastry packed with rich, honest ingredients. It's a start, and they should be given every encouragement to expand their offering, even to the extent of throwing their commonplace bar menu away.

Should you be pondering the origin of the word `pie' over a pint of the always excellent Potholer or the pub's very own Gem, worry not; a copy of the English Oxford Dictionary sits by the bar.

“Traditional pub in beautiful area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014 via mobile

Felt I had to recommend this little gem of a pub had dinner here twice with my family on our mini break and it was lovely both times. Very reasonably priced and very tasty fare can personally recommend the homemade pies and the burgers, especially the Hearty burger! If you haven't eaten all day and are very hungry it is massive and a challenge but worth waiting all day for!
All in all a traditional old fashioned pub in a beautiful area with great food and attentive friendly staff. Hope to go back one day.
