Description: The Mill at Rode is a quintessential English inn, set on a stunning riverside site, surrounded by beautiful gardens and with a fabulous deck area overlooking the water. This former woollen mill is one of the few surviving that once put Rode on the map as a key trading centre and market town on the Somerset and Wiltshire border. The Mill was part of a consortium that won a competition to make a dress for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III, and invented a dye colour Royal Blue.. The Mill is now part of the Butcombe Brewery group of pubs and through sensitive restoration still connects with its industrial past, including the historic waterwheel. The pub has recently undergone a big refurbishment and the result is a carefully crafted modern, contemporary environment that is ideal for meeting friends, enjoying family time, or celebrating major events, with private dining facilities for up to 60 guests. Renowned for its great fresh locally sourced food and convivial atmosphere, the Mill at Rode is a perfect location for all occasions. There is plenty of parking and outside the chance to try your hand at some typical English pub games such as Giant Jenga and croquet so it is ideal for enjoying the lovely natural setting on the River Frome. Close to Bath, the Mill is a mecca for locals and visitors alike who are looking for a relaxing time. The Mill chefs pride themselves on using only the best ingredients, with as many as possible being supplied locally. On the menu are some classic British dishes such as sausage and mash with onion gravy to hearty international favourites such as dry rubbed pork ribs. And of course there is a fantastic selection of ales from Butcombe Brewery and a wide range of wines to suit all tastes and palates.

“Excellent food, lovely setting, lovely staff overcomes the slightly tired interior.”

The postivies first - The food was excellent. My party had the two courses for 10pounds menu although I had just one normal menu dish. The leek and potato soup was deemed delicious, the Pork in peppercorn sauce looked and was also deemed very good. I had the Ox Cheeks with mashed potato and loads of veg. The meat was like eating pate, the mash was creamy, the veggies fresh and plenty of them and the gravy was so good I had to finish it with a spoon!
One of my party had the lemon sorbet of which there was so much we all shared it. Including drinks our bill was under 40 pounds, excellent.
The young lady serving us was totally charming and the lady who appeared to be the manageress, whilst clearly very busy was as all times pleasant.
Slight negative(s), The interior is naturally interesting because it was a Mill, but it could do with a total freshen up, the area immediately where the sluice display is, was rather dull, but the area round the corner much nicer because of its outlook. The conveniences...things like longterm hands touching of doors and door frames...need a scouring pad taken to them.
But nothing so dire as to cause us not to return...our food really was excellent.

“Nice location”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

We like it here, we live locally and have visited dozens of times. The last time we visited we had our baby granddaughter and the girls who were serving were charming and made a real fuss of the baby (which she loved). We were very well looked after and the food as always was delicious. When the weather is nice you can sit outside next to the mill stream. Highly recommended

“Only average”

The location is lovely very pleasant decor can get very busy on sunny days as the outside seating is good , food could be better a little on the commercial side and staff a bit chaotic but mostly pleasant drinks on the expensive side but prob go again for the pleasant outside areas.

“Beautiful setting”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

If you are looking a pub-restaurant with a great outdoor setting. Then you would be hard pushed to beat the Mill at Rode. The outdoor terrace overlooks the green scenery and babbling stream below. The menu is a little more upmarket than the usual classic pub fare and worthy of an evening meal or pub lunch for that special occasion. The prices are good, service is good and the pub atmosphere is casual and quiet.

Nice location in an old mill, by a small stream with tables outside.

The menu has a good selection and the meals are reasonably priced, £12-15 for a Mina course. We paid £90 for four people including shared starter, main course, two desserts and drinks so good value.

The only downside is that you now have to go to the bar to order your meals, but not a big issue.
