“Excellent B&B”

At Rose Bank, John and Elaine provide a welcoming home away from home. Beds are extremely comfortable and the modern showers, with horizontal jets, provide welcome relief to aching limbs after long walks along the coast or around Exmoor. Guests are welcome to borrow one of the many walking guides available in the lobby. Breakfasts are cooked to order and are of extremely high quality (choose from the many options the previous evening) - the bacon is particularly good, fresh fruit is served and there is a wide choice of preserves. My only minor quibble would be the orange juice, which is of the 'from concentrate' variety.

Rose bank offers excellent value, with comfort and breakfast quality better than most hotels. It is also good to see that single rooms are available at little more than half the rate of double rooms, making this a very economical option (around £35) for lone travellers. I would not hesitate to recommend Rose Bank to anyone visiting Porlock.

Finally a tip. If the weather is fine enough for an alfresco lunch or dinner, the Information Centre over the road has a lovely walled garden with picnic tables: we enjoyed take-away fish & chips there one evening.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back face away from the main road, but there is little traffic at night, so you will sl...

We stay at Rosebank every year on our way to Cornwall. As many others have said, John and Elaine are always warmly welcoming and they go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. Attention to detail is most impressive and the breakfasts are the best we have experienced on our travels. We have also met a good many interesting fellow guests over the years. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: All rooms are extremely well appointed, clean and comfortable .

In the UK it is so nice to experience good hospitality without being asked to pay mortgage-level payments for one room.

Rose Bank is a wonderful place to stay in, Elaine and John make you feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble for them. The breakfasts were amazing, I didn't need to eat for the rest of the day and the rooms are clean with everything you could want. Having our room up in the roof space meant the ceiling was a little bit inconvenient for someone as tall as me but this is to be expected if you're not staying in a block-shaped building.

I heartily recommend this for anyone staying in this area, parking is available and all the shops, pubs and restaurants in Porlock are seconds away.

Room Tip: If you are tall then try to get a room on the 1st floor.

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Rose Bank. It was thoroughly enjoyable. Elaine and John are excellent hosts - nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is very good and is of high quality. Our room at the front of the house had a lovely view across to the Welsh Coast. We hope to return again. Thank you Elaine and John.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the house have good views.

This is a very attractive building, on the tiny high street, a couple of minutes from everything. There is parking behind the building up a steep little access road, but there is an entrance from the parking and a bell you can ring to get support with bags. Inside it's full of nice and interesting things, interesting enough to stop you for another look.
The room we were in, no. 2, was big, airy, light, and nicely decorated. There were two very good rocking chairs, just the thing, we can testify, for relaxing on after a long walk. The bed was very comfortable. The bedroom was full of thoughtful details, tea coffee, biscuits. Sweets even, and a Gideon bible in a drawer next to the bed. (Much to my surprise I got into it and read my way through the garden of Eden and beyond.) . Lots of hangars in the big wardrobe.
The bathroom was surprisingly big, with a shower which also had multi- directional options. Shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, lots of that kind of thing, mending materials and a pretty bag of emergency supplies. Everything immaculate.
The couple who run it, Elaine and John, are very ready to be helpful, very nice people to talk to. Breakfast was a very friendly meal with everything anyone could want.
We came to Rose Bank by chance, we very much enjoyed our short stay and felt lucky to have found it.

We visited Rose Bank over the Aug bank holiday w/e, and yet another wonderful time had by my wife and I.
This was our fourth time at this great B&B, and John & Elaine were most accommodating as usual, because we arrived later than planned they made access very easy for us, and of course as is the norm at Rose Bank the room and bathroom were spotlessly clean with everything one would need (or forget to take with you).
We would certainly recommend this great place to stay to anyone wanting a good quality B&B at very competitive rates, the breakfast you get is the best we have ever had at any B&B establishment for the quality of locally sourced ingredients included, and cooked to your requirements, certainly fills you up for the days activities.

We somehow left an item behind on our departure, but when we contacted John and Elaine upon finding out we had left it there, John had already posted it to our address, yet another example of the quality of service available to all who stay there.
Certainly be back there when in the area, first class.

This is a great B&B in a lovely village. John and Elaine were very welcoming, the breakfasts were huge and very good quality. John was very knowledgable about local information and on his recommendations and our os map we easily followed tracks out of the village into the surrounding countryside which was stunning. The room we stayed in was very clean, with comfortable beds, on-suite bathroom and with great views over the village rooftops and down to the sea in the distance. With the Ship Inn a 30 second walk away and all of the other facilities of the village literally on the doorstep this was the perfect B&B for our needs.
