“Lovely old inn near the coastal path”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2014

We stayed here for two nights and have immediately booked to return for another mid week break. The room is comfortable, warm and provided enough coffee and tea for as many cups as you could reasonably drink ! The breakfast choice was good and served from 9-10. The real joys of this inn as far as we were concerned were that it was dog friendly throughout, an excellent range of real ales available, the friendly staff and the close proximity to the coastal walks of Porlock. Evening meal choice was good, especially the mussels. This is a very old inn with real charm.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the High Street but as hardly any traffic passed all night we had a good n...

We came back as it is so lovely here and we were blessed with brilliant weather, did a huge walk up Dunkerry Beacon - about 5 hours in total, well worth it just for the views. We forgot to say in our first review that they allow dogs, not just in the pub but in the rooms, you can take them anywhere in the pub and no one moans. It has two huge fires, great food and very friendly staff, we love it here and will be back again and again. Thank you everyone for making us feel so welcome.

Room Tip: We stayed in the family room, very comfy and warm

Great food, nice atmosphere in the bar, friendly staff, dogs welcome, good beer...so just what you want in an English pub when staying over.

Rooms are comfy, a bit on the shabby side, but ok overall. Very warm and cosy on a cold winter's night.

Room Tip: Pay the £10 extra for a large room

The Top Ship Inn offers fabulous home cooked food, a cosy atmosphere, excellent and attentive staff and great accommodation. We had a wonderful family break here and will definitely be returning in the near future.

Stayed here several times in recent years with 3-4 friends for mountain biking weekends and love it. Great beer, good food, friendly and competent staff and good value rooms. Perfect for mountain biking I think. Why stay anywhere else? The Bottom Ship in Porlock Weir is almost as good but a little further from the best riding.

They have a special offer on from November until March - two nights for the price of one - fantastic. The pub is a proper old fashioned pub with great food and lots of locals. The breakfast was very filling and tasty and the rooms are clean and comfortable. Lots of lovely walks from here and the Bottom Ship have a special offer of fish, chips and a pint for £7 on a Friday night - that was lovely and tasty. Top place to stay and the staff are very nice as well.

We stayed here for two nights. Yes it is a little shabby but most of it is the original building and has so much atmosphere. It was good being able to take the dogs with us, they tucked in nicely under the table and behaved. Breakfast was nice and what we expected for such a traditional place (no marmalade though). We have dinner there both evenings, first evening better than second (down to our choice I think). We had husband had steak and said it was better than one he had paid nearly £30 for the week before! Second night chose the chicken pie which I wasnt too keen on - obviously a big pot of filling prepared in a pan and plonked on the plate with a puff pastry disc cooked separately and lay next to it. I know this is a fairly common way of doing pie in catering but it looked so unappealing.

Really enjoyed the break, very friendly and helpful staff. Point - watch some of the locals with their dogs, they let them wander around the pub off the lead, a bit of a shock for my nervous little one.
