“Delightful home from home”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

My wife and I spent a delightful two days at Myrtle Cottage. We have not used B & Bs that much over the years, but anyone staying here would want to use them more, a great advertisement for their trade. Nigel and Janet are the perfect hosts, providing comfortable accommodation, great breakfasts and a wealth of local information. Also note they have a family room, great for those travelling with younger children. Well situated for circular walks or for those following the coastal paths. Local pubs and restaurants provide good quality and value food in the evenings, with beautiful countryside on your doorstep what more could you want.

Just the best English B&B experience we could have hoped for. Nigel and Janet were most accomodating and never missed a beat with a group that contained an infant and a mom who had allergies. The English breakfast was first rate. A terrific experience! Thank you!

Room Tip: Ask Nigel and Janet for help picking a room that meets your needs.

Well, mine hosts - Nigel & Janet - have yet again excelled. We decided that as we like Porlock (& Myrtle Cottage) so much that we wanted a short break and went down to see N&J. Once again the B&B was first class - clean, comfortable, wonderful breakfasts and a cosy atmosphere. Whilst there a couple of Dutch walkers were staying and in conversation they too said that Myrtle Cottage was the nicest B&B they had been to and that Nigel & Janet were so friendly and accommodating. We can only endorse those sentiments. Well done and we will most certainly be coming back to see you soon!

Room Tip: There is a good mix of rooms catering for doubles, families and singles. They are all wonderfully cl...

You can be assured of a warm welcome from Janet & Nigel in their marvellous home. Great atmosphere, fine breakfasts, loads of information about places to visit and the best places to eat in Porlock (The Ship & the Lapswood Restaurant are highly recommended). Really cant think of anything negative to say about this wonderful place.

Nigel and Janet are the perfect couple to run a b&b. From the welcome tea with home made cookies to the friendly wave goodbye the next morning I never saw either of them without a smile on their face.

The cottage is quirky with lots of character, right in the middle of Porlock so you have plenty of food and drink options. Prices are very reasonable for solo travellers which makes a nice change, and they were even kind enough to wash my sweaty cycling gear!

Thank you for a memorable stay and good luck in the future.

We experienced the delights of myrtle cottage after a long awaited visit.

The weekend was nothing less than sublime - 7 girls and we haven't laughed so much in ages. Some of us spilled over into the local camp site (400m down the road) which was also well groomed, equipped and friendly.

The breakfasts are second to none and I can see why the breakfast award was given. The rooms are cute, clean and cottage-y. Each with its own individual character. The place is right on the non-busy "high street" and you feel right in the heart of Porlock.

We managed to have a little tour round over the bank holiday weekend and took in the delights of Minehead night life along with Porlock's own! Porlock weir is close and pretty as is Lynton - quaint shops, gorges and fish and chip shops. The whole place has that chocolate box feel without being overdone and Janet and Nigel are brilliant at what they do and you adapt well to the "at ease" pace with their help. Maxy was with us also and we feel so lucky to have had the chance. This place is a secluded gem for old and young alike I just hope we can arrange another visit soon!
