Description: Alex and myself Annette, have recently taken over the Culbone Stables Inn on Exmoor. It is situated on the A39 between Porlock and Lynton in the idyllic heart of Exmoor. Our Inn and gardens are in a beautiful setting and have exceptional views across the valley of Coombe. Our aim has been to renovate the restaurant back to a welcome, friendly Country Inn/pub. Our menu is traditional pub fare, at reasonable prices, using local produce. We welcome walkers, cyclists, families and dogs. We have 5 on suite bedrooms. 2 are opposite each other (one twin, one double) with their own landing and would be perfect for families. Room 1 has its own private patio, with stunning views. Our motto is , anything you want, just ask. We might not be able to fulfill some requests but there's no harm in asking.

Staff friendly, ambiance good, quality of food very good, just a tad expensive. 10% cheaper and I'd rate it higher (plus a better white wine list)

Having first stumbled upon The Culbone Inn whilst passing 16 years ago we were keen to revisit when back in the area last year and found it had been superbly upgraded.
Now 'relatively local' we have eaten here five times and stayed overnight on two of those occasions. In a fantastic location with outstanding views from the rooms the welcome is warm and relaxed; the team always bright and friendly. Yesterday we stopped in for lunch and sought advice of a short, local walk. After a bright but breezy walk down to Robbers Bridge we checked in to our room for a comfortable rest and refresh before dinner. Another good meal, with particular note to a stunningly good steak tartare, was enjoyed with a couple of bottles of wine; knowing that neither of us had to drive home!
The tranquillity and comfort of the room meant a great nights sleep before being greeted by a hearty West Country breakfast.
We have previously commended individual team members and would note that the standard of service is consistently good on every visit.
Excellent facilities make this stunning location a firm favourite that we will continue to enjoy and highly recommend to others.

Although snow thwarted our original plans to have lunch at The Culbone at the beginning of February, we were determined to try this restaurant as soon as we could. When friends said they'd like to go too, we needed no further excuses.

The Culbone prides itself on using local produce and our food was beautifully fresh and tasty. Also nicely presented and with a good choice of wines. We all had different starters and everyone was very pleased with their choice. For our main course it just had to be steak for everyone except my vegetarian husband. The steaks were were cooked to our individual preferences and all done to perfection. My husband had a choice of 2 veggie starters and 2 veggie mains from the menu and there was a further starter and main available as specials. No other word of it but 'delicious'!

The new owners have spent a lot of time (and presumably money) refurbishing the building and it really shows. It's neutral and contemporary with interesting textile wall hangings and paintings; all in all a relaxing and pleasant environment to be in.

Thanks to The Culbone for a lovely evening. It's definately a place to return to and I'm sure that we'll back before too long.

We stopped at the Cullbone for Sunday lunch. We had not booked but they managed to squeeze us in so long as we were out by a certain time. This was no problem to us as we have a baby so meals are not a long, drawn out affair.
This is not your typical North Devon pub, and the food was not either. The sunday lunch we had was tasty and generous. Our son had fish and chips and throughly enjoyed his as well.
Only negative was that the service was not as slick as it could have been but the three staff worked their socks off when we were there. A lovely meal and we will be back but will book a table next time!
