We returned to The Oaks this May and were delighted to find that everything was as good as we remembered it. We had a delightful corner room with a supremely comfortable bed, sitting area and a sparkling bathroom with fluffy towels and bathrobes. Wonderful dining room with spectacular views and sunsets and beautiful food. We had super Roast Venison for dinner one evening, and in the morning the best ever scrambled egg with smoked salmon. We will not leave it long before we return, particularly as Tim, the proprietor, is a classic car enthusiast and has just purchased a lovely bright red MGB which he will be hiring out to guests so they can tour Exmoor in style!

We have slept in room n° 7 on 8 august 2013, and it has been unforgettable for the lovely atmosphere and gorgeus view on the bay. Tim the owner is charming and very hospitable, and the dining room where you also have a delicious breakfast is a "must" for a glorious stay and awakening !

Room Tip: Room n° 7 has a wonderful window on the bay.

My wife & I spent our honeymoon here in 1972. Much has changed!
The current Oaks really is a 5 star experience in every way. Friendliness without intrusion. Excellent decor & comfortable rooms. The 4 course dinner was fantastic & breakfast a treat.
Worth every penny.

My partner and I went to Exmoor last week for the Iron Man competition, a friend of ours was taking part, as usual we left it late finding anywhere to stay so got on the good old internet and found this Hotel, called them and yes, they had a room available... Hoorahh.
We arrived and were met at the door by Ann and Tim ( we got to know them well) Ann does the cooking, and yes they provide dinner, a real result!! Tim was always smiling, very helpful if you needed any information about the area and also took your orders at meal times, and more importantly, your drinks orders!! The food is fantastic. The rooms all have a great view as the hotel is quite high up, at breakfast time you can see all around, watching the wild life and weather.. good and bad, at Dinner we watched a beautiful sunset. The room we had was so cosy, the hotel pride themselves on a good mattress and the bed was better than the one we have at home, so off we go to buy another bed when we get home!! The shower (which is important to me) was brilliant, loads of hot water and a really powerful shower. Breakfast was brilliant, a good menu and everything cooked by Ann, the other thing, ( sorry back to the rooms) about the rooms i liked was when you came back in after a long day, the bed was made, the bathroom cleaned, there was a tray of goodies( tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits fruit and bottles of fizzy water). In short, we have discovered a little gem,you could see how hard Tim and Ann work to make your stay as happy and restful as they possibly can and YES, we will be going back as soon as. Should you decide to stay at the Oaks Hotel, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: From what i could gather, all the rooms were comfortable, i would try for one of the bigger ones but...

We have stayed over a number of years now and every visit is so very good! We are made to feel very special from the time of arrival until departure. There is a wonderful relaxing atmosphere and the service and attention to detail are rare in this day and age. The rooms and furnishings are of high quality and with so many extras. They are spotlessly clean. Then there is the food! Everything is locally sourced, freshly prepared, superbly cooked and discreetly served. The dining room must have one of the best views on Exmoor. Anne and Tim are excellent hosts. All in all a great place to escape to 'recharge the batteries'.

Room Tip: All rooms are individual and have good views; not much to choose between them. We have enjoyed any r...

Fabulous views and fabulous food in the charming village of Porlock. The Oaks Hotel sits on a small hill set just above the village. Tea in the sitting room is a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an ocean view.

This may not be the cheapest establishment in Somerset by a long shot, but it is certainly the most quintessentially English hotel I have had the pleasure of staying in for some time. Foreign visitors, especially Americans, should put this place into your itinerary if you want to experience something many of us were familair with back in teh last century but done exceedingly well.

The rooms are very well appointed with super comfy beds, Egyptian cotton sheets and BLANKETS!! No duvets here! The TV is a good size, there is a pin cushion with all you need to fix your clothes, fruit on the table, a well stocked bathroom with a brilliant shower. I'm tall and the bath didn't disappoint either. Our host , dressed soberly in jacket and tie, made us incredibly welcome. However, this is not a place to bring young kids. My wife and I may be of pensionable age but we were the youngest guests by a decade or more. Most of the hotel business is repeat and I can understand why. the four-course dinner was well cooked and nicely presented, but unadventuroius as much typical English cuisine of thirty years ago was. But don't get me wrong; this may not have beeen a gourmet experience, but the menu which no excuses to modernity in its conservativeness was none the worse for that! Prawn cocktail, cod with a crisp herb crust, loin of venison were all delicious. I had a steak one night and wasn't asked how I would like it cooked. it came medium rare which is probably too underdone for the average Englishman, but I enjoyed it. The wines were very sensibly priced and the list was substantial but not overwhelming. Classic English puddings of course.

The ambience of the hotel is quiet and politely familiar. Silence tends to reign, but guests, who return year after year remember each other and the polite chat at the table or in the bar drinking post dinner coffee is always pleasant.

Room Tip: All rooms face over the town towards the sea and are equally good
